Recommend me a good space game

I'm looking for a good space game. One that has good gameplay and is fairly long. I've played Freelancer and Darkstar one. I want a game that is similar to these, not EVE Online!!!!!!

x3 is pretty cool. I haven't played much of it but the little I've played was pretty impressive. Only thing that is off-putting is the massive UI and a LOT of things to learn it seems.

If you want a challenge try transendence. It's a free downloadable space shooter where you upgrade your ship's armor, reactor, cargo hold, etc to reach the galactic core.Highly fun and addictive!

Any of the X universe games... with one very strong caveat - Do Not Play The Storyline Campaign in the titles that allow 'free roam'/sandbox mode. Egosoft's strong suit is not story telling... or mission design... or character animation...

Have a crack at Evochron Mercenary. THAT's a fun game Heard the multiplayer was good, too. It's cheap, and with regular updates. Small dev = better feedback.

try sword of the stars. Its turn based strategy but real time combat. Very fun. If you do get it I strongely recommend running through the tutorial first.
