So there's several games I've played over the years whose stories, atmosphere, or ideas I loved and either want more of or felt could've done better in a different media (such as film). I was wondering if you good fellow Escapists had some recommendations for movies/books/etc that are similar to:

Resistance series (loved the alternate history with aliens)
Half Life (love the world)
Hotline Miami (love the insanity)
Body Harvest (again, love the alternate history and time travel stuff)
Demon Souls/Dark Souls (love the game lore and atmosphere)

For my contribution I'll put in the following:

If you like Silent Hill, check out Lost Highway and Jacob's Ladder
If you like The Last of Us, check out Stake Land
If you like F-zero, check out Redline

Casual Shinji

Should've gone before we left.

Check out the manga Berserk (if you haven't already). There's actually quite a few references to Berserk in Dark Souls.
Hotline Miami (love the insanity)
The obvious recommendation here would be Drive. But I'd also like to include The Hitcher (the 1986 version), since it has a similar dark murderous vibe to it.

Well, these might be something of obvious recommendations and you may have already seen them, but if you like the insanity of Hotline Miami you should watch Pulp Fiction; Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels; and Snatch. They're all more heist films than anything else, but they're all completely mad and fairly graphic.

As for Resistance, if you have a tolerance for classic sci-fi there's a lot of stuff you could check out. Obvious choice is H. G. Wells' The War of the Worlds, though while I found that novel to be enjoyable I personally find his prose style to be a bit dry. For something potentially more captivating, maybe try Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End.

For the Souls games... it's a bit of a stretch and again likely an obvious choice, but how about A Song of Ice & Fire (or, alternatively, the television adaptation Game of Thrones)?

I'm really bad at this.
