Having recently bought a kindle and realising all the books I wanted before now I already have and after making a couple of purchases I'm worried I'll run out of books and have none left, making my kindle a £150 piece of adorable plastic with no use. Typically I read what is pigeon holed as science fiction but I am always willing to be suprised.
Any recommendations are valued
Every day I read the New York Times, and every week I get the escapist magazine.
I only read fiction so....
Personally, I would recomend getting many of the classics:
By Ayn Rand:
Atlas Shrugged
The Fountainhead
Anthem
All three of these books are great at promoting Rands idea of Objectivism, ie. "Ultra-Capitalism" but even if you don't agree with her, they are great works of fiction, and the parallels that can be seen between her world, and the one we live in are surprising.
Arthur C. Clarke:
2001 a Space Odyssey (one of my favorite Sci-Fi novels of all time)
2010 Odyssey Two
2061 Odyssey Three
3001 Final Odyssey
Clarke is a brilliant writer in my opinion, probably one of the best. You can see the parallels between his titles and many of the science fiction movies and games played, and all are great reads.
George Orwell:
Animal Farm
1984
Once again, great books, 1984 is more focused on the hellish world where we are all ruled by the communist esque "Big Brother", and many ideas were inspired by it. Animal Farm is also a good read, showing in great detail how when Communism is put into practice, how fast things go from, "For you my Comrade" To, "ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL, BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS".
I'd also recomend Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.
Now on the less serios side of things, I liked Harry Potter, (obviosly, tell me who didnt?) the Hunger Games, Jurassic Park, Prey (By Michael Crichton) and lets see... Oh yes, Eragon, great book, but the Movie was complete crap. Ruined the chances the book had to be a great adaptation.
Thats all I can think of off the top of my head....
