Well, as for rap, I kinda like these guys:
But I don't have much else, I just don't like the vocal style much. I do have some cool relaxed hip-hop to recommend, namely Nujabes: Nujabes was a friggin' genius, a shame he died so young.
Outkast. Very good team with Andre 3000 and Big Boi. Some of my favorites:
Bombs Over Baghdad
Rosa Parks
So fresh so clean
Liberation
Plenty more out there, but I'll let you find them. As of late, they've started releasing more solo albums. Big Boi's "Son of Chico Dusty" is the newest, and has some pretty solid songs on there.
ot:
I personally love rap. I'm glad to see some Escapists are willing to try the genre instead of crying "lol cant spell crap w/o rap!1!!"
And fuck the haters, I like some mainstream rappers too. Kanye's latest album was amazing, and Eminem and B.o.B. are fantastic as well.
Some of my favorites...
Try a bit of Busdriver, he's not that sort of aggressive rap that you hear most days. And also Das Racist are pretty cool. I'll think of some more and come back later
Das Racist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rP322FWfJWQ nice little 8-bit vid
Busdriver http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HalDFVVo4aY using the sample from the car song in Parappa the Rappa, so yeh he's pretty mega.
I enjoy Hollywood Undead, though they're kind of rap/rock instead of solid rap.
Been to Hell, one of their newer songs.
Undead, from their first album. and City, one of my favorites.
YES YES YES to the ninja above me who says De La Soul. Also, EPMD are worth a look as are the Fugees. Also, Andre 3000 and Big Boi (OutKast as a duo but they both got solo albums out)
