Hello fellow Escapists! My music library is severely lacking in some new music. Would you be so kind as to recommend me some tunes? My favorite genres are: Punk, Pop-Punk, Metal, Metalcore, Death Metal, Hip-Hop, and Southern rock/metal. I don't like country or dubstep.

So whaddaya say? Help a brother out?

You managed to list all the genres of music I hardly listen to...

This might be along your alley though...

I am a total Metal head so I would suggest these bands if you havent heard them before or don't already like them.

Killswitch Engage, All that Remains, Mudvayne, HellYeah, Fear Factory, Mushroomhead, Lamb of God, Static-X , Tool, A Perfect Circle, Shadows Fall, Five Finger Death Punch, Atreyu , In Flames, Parkway Drive , Slipknot, Stone Sour, Rammstein, Machine Head and Demon Hunter to start off. There are tons of others not to mention the classic acts as well.

How about this then?

I really don't listen to metal, if anything my taste in music is getting more singer-songwriter-y

I know over half these bands. All That Remains, Five Finger Death Punch, and Atreyu all used to be good bands. Than they kinda went in a more mainstream direction. I want ATR to go back to The Fall Of Ideals style.

I just recently got into more Metalcore stuff so I have been listening to new bands as I find them on Pandora. I think FFDP is still a good band but they are smoothing out a lot of the harshness they had from the first 2 cd's. I like the older ATR as well but some of the new cd is really good. I saw them open up for Hellyeah in L.A. and I thought they sounded really great but they did play a lot of the older stuff.

A few more, some bands I saw live last year.

and one a bit older, but since you mentioned Hip-Hop and this being the one hip-hop act I can actually stomach...

I don't think anyone has mentioned 3 Inches of Blood yet, you should check that out. They are just really fucking good, Advance and Vanquish is my favourite album ever. My favourite metal band by far.

Also, fuck it can't let a music recommendation thread go without pushing the BlazBlue soundtrack. It's just too good.

Any other sub-genres of metal do you enjoy or is death it?

Epicurean is a Protest The Hero-ish metalcore band you might enjoy.

Hmm, I could recommend quite a few death metal bands, but I'll mention one classic here. The Dutch legend that is the mighty Asphyx. You want some "oomph" you say, look no further man.

A faster, break-neck song.

A longer, slower death/doom song for which the band is known.

Oh man, those vocals are so god damn delicious. Martin van Drunen always sounded like he was buried in a coffin six feet under, yet still alive and screaming hopelessly for help. I love it. And that guitar... Glorious metal gods, that fucking guitar. Such a crushingly heavy tone.

I do enjoy 3 Inches of Blood. However I find it difficult to listen to OST's without playing/watching the source material.

Fair to Midland. Any of their albums from inter.fundle.stifle to Fables from a Mayfly to Arrows & Anchors.

Here's a sample:

Alternatively, there's always Tool:
