can the escapist community help me out?

depends, modern or classic. if you want classics, I'd go with War of the Worlds, or anything by either Jules Verne or HG Wells. if you want modern... I got nothing

One sort of steampunk book is called The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson. It's pretty neat. It's set in the future where nanotechnology has become popular and people have decided to emulate the Victorian era just because they liked it better than anything that came after it.

It IS Neal Stephenson, though, so expect lots of characters dropping in and out and no ending to speak of. It's more like a slice of interesting events taking place around the same time than a cohesive story.

.No.

There's BioShock Rapture. Didn't buy it, but from what I saw it didn't look bad.

Hmm...This topic wasn't relevant to my interests until I saw it, and now I am quite interested as well...

Off the top of my head I'd say the Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi. It's set in a post-petroleum future where clockwork and genetic engineering are at the forefront of technology.

Otherwise I'd suggest hitting up TV tropes Steam Punk page here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SteamPunk
