When it comes to anime, I'll admit that I can be a cynical bastard like Yahtzee and most anime i've seen have generally been more targeted to the teen audience, and I either despise them or i didn't think they were that great. I didn't think something like Haruhi was amazing, just O.K, and I though Magica Modaka was good, just not a master piece. What are some anime that are made for more of the adult audience in mind or are at least ridiculously violent. It doesn't even have to be action, it could be a comedy or a drama (No Hentai, obviously)
Just two thing:
1) Don't recommend the fallowing since i've already seem them or at least intend to check them out:
Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Shamploo
Hellsing
Afro Samurai
Elfien Lied
Ninja Scroll
Ghost in the Shell
2) I prefer a dub

OP had better brace himself for that one. Fucking Christ!
Imagine the effect it had on me the first time I saw it, at the age of 12.
And there you thought you were about to see some fun spirited away adventure tale.

Bunny Drop (or Usagi Drop in Japan)
It has been released with an English dub and though I've only had the chance to watch it subbed I can tell you this is an amazing series.
Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
Edit: Only subbed

Now just for some others, I have no idea if any of these are dubbed yet though:
Berserk
Kino's Journey
Steins;Gate
Xam'd Lost Memories

And I'll just give a random shout out to my favorite anime,
Bakemonogatari
You'll ether hate it, love it or have no idea what the crap is going on.

Berserk
Blue Gender

Well, there was that one video with the schoolgirl and the squid I once saw on youporn (I am heee-larious, I know)

Other than that: Fist of the North Star is actually pretty fucking awesome though it's also pretty fucking stupid.
Also, pretty much everything Yoshiaki Kawajiri has worked on is worth seeing, if not for story reasons then simply for the audio-visual experience.

Odd that I haven't seen Monster yet so I'll just go ahead and recommend that.

One of the best mature stories I've seen so far, although I'm only halfway through. It also has a damn fine dub. Which is nice because, in my opinion, Japanese doesn't really fit with the setting.

No Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann?
I am disappoint

Anyways, check out N.H.K and Tengen Toppa Gurenn Lagann.

Clannad I guess could go under the adult genre.

I'd say Tengen Toppa Gurenn Lagann is mostly an adolescent series.

This season, Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) is absolutely amazing.

I would recommend in no particular order:

Blood+
D.Gray-man
Claymore
Spirited Away (movie)
Howl's Moving Castle (movie)
Steins;Gate
Shinsekai Yori

Generally last (winter) season had some pretty good shows.

And my god do I recommend Psycho-Pass!

Elfien Lied
If Elfen Lied is adult, then I'm a samurai.
Anyways - Black Lagoon, Kemonozume, Kara no Kyoukai, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Noir, Requiem for the Phantom, Perfect Blue, Akira, Kurozuka, Shigurui, Speed Grapher, The Sky Crawlers, Serial Experients Lain, Gankutsuou. Some adult comedies - Detroit Metal City and Oruchuban Ebichu. Yes, most of these we said already, but I still felt like writing them down.
Have you tried watching it in Japanese? It's better in every conceivable way from a dub.
And why do I get the feeling most people here think adult means blood and gore? Not that some of the titles I said don't have them but they're not used just to flex "adult anime" muscles. And how is Gurren Lagann adult? It's awesome as hell and I love it to bits, but it's not acually adult. Neither is Deadman Wonderland - one moment Hummingbird is a yandere, the next she acts perfectly fine; we also have a loli wielding a giant sword. Please. And though I like Gantz, the only appeal the ANIME has is gratuitous violence and nudity. The manga gets better after the chapters that are covered by the anime.

I would defiantly recommend Death Note, great series. Either Death Note or the Ghost In The Shell series are my favorite.

I'm going to recommend Psycho Pass and Attack On Titan.

Though I'm not normally into violent anime and I really couldn't stand Elfen Lied. I'd also un-recommend Steins Gate.
