After what seems like eons of playing old school games like the loyalist I am, I finally caved and bought PS3 about a month ago. So far, I've tackled Mortal Kombat and Skyrim and have intentions of picking up Street Fighter 4, Dark Souls, some sort of zombie or alien shooter and stuff like that.

I'm a little in the dark with what's awesome and good out there so anything you guys could offer would be sweet. Stoked to be a gamer again.

Definitely check out Shadows of the Damned. The game is pretty easy especially coming off of retro games but it has a great world and sense of humour.

If you want something a little more hardcore infamous and its sequel are pretty great. a third person shooter with climbing and platforming mechanics might be up your alley seeing as you've been all about the old school scene for a while.

I've put about 25 hours so far into Saints Row the Third. I'm playing Batman Arkham City and Uncharted 3, and I would describe those experience like watching a fine film. They are really "excellent." And I mean that. But SRTT is like running around the world's best carnival after sucking down a gas tank of helium with a fist full of cash to blow on stupid games. With no pants on. Just a hoot.

Of course, some of the best PS3 exclussives are:

G-d of War 3
Uncharted 1-3
Infamous 2
Resistence 1-3

I only tried the demo for the highly regarded Metal Gear Solid. I cannot recommend it.
GTA4 was like a slow, agonizing death. Also highly rated. I don't get it.

Just started playing Valkyria Chronicles the other day. It's a strategy game where you get a little squad of tanks and snipers and whatnot and it's all sort of an anime retelling of WWII. It's pretty good so far if you're looking for something different

I've heard some pretty good things about Dead Island, but I'm almost tempted to hold out for Resident Evil 6. I was a big RE fan when the second one came out and that might satisfy my need for nostalgia as well. Plus the trailer was sick.

Looking into Shadows of the Damned on google right now, that looks like something I'd like as well.

Deus Ex Human Revolution,
Uncharted series,
Infamous 1 and 2,
Assassin's Creed II (the biggest and most fun one to this date),
Red Dead Redemption,
Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.
And i liked Mirror's Edge....

What kind of games do you like? Your list shows that you like combat, but do you also like platforming, rpgs, action-adventure, etc.? Can't help you with zombies b/c I'm not into that theme, but let's see...

Have a look at:
1) God of War HD Collection and GOW 3
2) Demon's Souls (worth playing in its own right and you can get it cheaper than Dark Souls)
3) Metal Gear Solid 4 (and the HD Collection)

Can you handle a more thoughtful/meditative action-adventure experience? Check out reviews and background info on:
4) ICO/SotC HD Collection
5) NIER

Definitely see the PSOne Classics on PSN if you have a decent internet connection and want to stay a little retro, and what about more niche-type games?:
6) Mirror's Edge (first-person platforming/parkour, great graphics)
7) Hunted: The Demon's Forge (basic co-op fantasy combat, works well for fast play with your brain off, partner AI for single-player is ok/functional)

You mentioned two fighters so I must suggest... BlazBlue: Continuum Shift! :D

Best fighter of the current-gen imo.

Definately one of the best games on the PS3 and the only game to actually make me cry. Twice. You should definately get this.

Holy smokes, lots of good suggestions here. I'm going to have to start picking up more shifts or something.

How was that Star Wars: Old Republic game? I was thinking about checking that out, but I usually tend to avoid MMO's all together.

it's fantastic if you are willing to put up with the constant problems with the player base in the game. it seems like the only reason people play SWTOR is to tell eachother how bad it is and how poor bioware did in making it. Great game if you're into MMOs, but probably not worth trying if you're not a big star wars and/or mmo fan.

It's also pc (you probably already knew but the original post was about PS3 so just needed to verify)

Massive Star Wars geek. I might just pick up the Force Unleashed or something to satisfy my needs, though.

To be perfectly honest, I don't generally even like playing games online. I socialize enough in my day to day activities that I would rather just shut off everything, garbage bag the windows and play alone in the dark. Haha.
