Hello. :)

Recently I've finished Fallout 1 and 2 with the recommended patches and mods. I had a really great time with the setting, the options, the characters and the writing that I've decided to buy the Fallout 3 - GOTY edition on Steam.

Now... I did some researching on my own and discovered that there is quite a bit of available mod, patch options for me. I'll be honest... I feel a bit overwhelmed because of this. I'm scared I'll instal some things that shouldn't be installed or do something wrong that could mess up my game. I also did some reading on my own about recommended mods as in lists, the order but still decided to make a topic on a board I trust its users (DON'T BETRAY ME! ... please).

So... got any recommended mods? Obligatory mods, patches I should be aware of? Is there a tool for installing? An order I'd need to follow? Please. You'll have my thanks in advance. :)

Well hopefully no one beats me to the punch while writing this. But here goes my recommendations.

First grab yourself FOMM for installing/managing of mods. Will save you some headaches. Link: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/640/?

The Unnoffical Patch should fix a lot of little things that could irk you otherwise, Link: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/3808/?

Then its pretty much up for flavor, some examples...

Want to be killing heaps of interesting enemy types?
Well download Marts Mutant Mod Link: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/3388/?

Want to customize your weapons as you go like in F:NV
Link: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/3388/?

Want some updated graphics textures and energy visuals?
Then download NMCs Texture Pack Link: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/12056/?
And Energy Visuals Enhancements Link: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/8340/?

If you get tired of the default perks and want to better role play then Ultimate Perk Pack is for you,
Link: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/1409/?

Want to start your own town and raise up settlers, survive bandit attacks, etc?
Then maybe Real Time Settler is for you Link: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/7070/?

Better Weather?
Link: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/6170/?

At the end of the day just remember its all about the experience you want to play and only add things to your game that you feel will add to it. Over clogging your game with 1000s of mods you won't ever use will just make things buggy.

The SwagLord got the most important ones listed, do check them out. Most of the things that float your boat ought to be modded in somewhere, so keep looking!

Now, modded Fallout 3 is a crashy game, so using the FOMM is a very good idea. There are plenty of guides how to use it, and it's a good idea to get the hang of it to keep things stable. And make sure the vanilla game is patched and clean before the modding starts.

Good hunting!

RH_Ironsights, but that's more of a personal choice if you like ironsights compared to 'squinting'.

I would also HIGHLY suggest getting the optional files to RH_Ironsights, they add a bunch of weapons to the game that stick with the game's universe. Probably the only weapon additions to the game that never felt out of place.

Fellout, absolutely necessary mod that's not even 1MB big.

Weapon Mod Kits, adds a little more customization to the game's admittedly small arsenal, and there's more to owning a gun now than constantly repairing it to 100% efficiency.

Hmm, I only really have ONE big mod I can recommend with all of my might.
Other then that, I would go with the ones that the people above me are talking about ... probably a houses to add, because who doesn't like a good home?

The big one I recommend is "Mothership Zeta Crew" [http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/8747/?]
Basically it adds a faction, your OWN faction which is quite epic. It comes with a rather large story with its own awesome locations and characters.

The best part is that it changes the Alien Mothership, I won't spoil it but this mod is THE mod I would want Bethesda to make official. :D
