This seems like an incredibly petty thing even for me to worry about, but it's on my mind regardless.
I currently watch only a handful of shows, and take advantage of my parents' DVR to watch them on my time and skip commercials. Except for one, all the other shows I watch are the niche kind that live or die depending on ratings every season, which I know is tallied by the number of TVs picking up the signal to watch it.
Does the fact that I record shows and watch them later mean it doesn't register in whatever system they use to measure ratings? Sure, it's a drop in the bucket, but still something that may determine whether I get a recorder for my place or not.
I suppose a fan petition might be more effective than 'voting with my wallet', but the few shows I consider good enough to watch regularly are so rare I'd rather not lose any of them if it can be helped.
