Are there any remakes you consider to be better than the original movie?

For movies I'd have to say John Carpenters The Thing is better then the original(don't kill me)

The thing wasn't really a remake of The thing from another world as much as it was a more faithful adaption of the original book. They really have very little in common. That being said the John Carpenter version is one of my favourite films. Totally underrated when it was released though.

As for remakes I like more than the originals? There's a few.

The Bionic Commando remake (the 3d one with 2d gameplay. Not the one with Lt T Dreadlocks) was fantastic and far better than the original game in my opinion.

I like the Tatu cover of How soon is now? more than the original Smiths version.

BATTLESTAR FUCKING GALACTICA!!!!!!111

The PSP remakes of Persona are solid. Though they're more like upgraded ports than remakes.

Oh and obligatory mention of the way overdue Half life remake, Black Mesa (which i will probably like more than the original if it's released in my lifetime)

The Thing is pretty much case in point. Scarface as well, a lot of people don't even realise it's a remake. I wonder if Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant counts as a remake, he hadn't even seen the original when he made it. It's really not related to the original in any way at all.

Honestly a lot of remakes are just plain awful, I only think you should "remake" a film if you have a genuinly new idea in your head, and don't simply want to rehash the old one.
The original Wicker Man is an amazing film, the remake is abysmal.
On the other hand, I think the recent remake of Bad Liutenant is actually better than the original film, but it's not so much a remake as a re-imagining.
Funny that both my examples star Nicholas cage, he's terrible in the first and great in the latter.

The Maltese Falcon.

In all fairness, I've not seen the original, however, I'm guessing there is a reason why a lot of people aren't even aware the Bogart version is a remake.

Resident Evil for the Gamecube was good, except for the difficulty. Other than that I really havent seen any good movie or game remakes.

Transformers Armada and He-Man (The ones that ran from 2001-2003) were better than the original series in plot and character depth, and had better action. And less PSAs.

Man on Fire is a remake and it's god damn amazing in comparison. I don't get the bile that remakes recieve I always like seeing a new take on an older film.

Do the new Batman movies count?
Also, The Departed, King Kong, 3:10 to Yuma, The Ring, and Dawn of the Dead.

On a side note, I haven't seen Let Me In yet, but my fingers are crossed.

For games, the GC Resident Evil remake blew the original out of the water. For movies, I actually enjoyed the remake of Dawn of the Dead more than the original, although I'd be cautious to actually commit myself to saying it's a better movie.

Are you talking about Degeneration? That was Horrible. But I do have high hopes for Tron being good.
