I recently got a Playstation 3, and while I'm not at all unhappy with my experiance thus far, I still feel it lacks due to the inability of backwards compatability. The consol cannot play Playstation 2 games but is quite capable of playing Playstation original. Now don't get me wrong, this is good for the 6 Playstation original games that were awesome, but I really miss the Jak and Daxter series. What I can't see is why there hasn't been a release of the series on a single disc able to play on the newest consol for Jak and Daxter when they quite easily did this with Sly Cooper. Plenty of people loved the series, and a release of it for PS3 would only bring in more profits and allow us to play it once more on a more convienant single disc pack. Maybe I just don't want to buy another Playstation 2, but wouldn't it be better to have all the popular series from it ported to Playstation 3?

Sony has made PS2 exclusive bundles before. See the God of War Collection. They also remade the Prince of Persia trilogy, except for some reason that series was only available in the UK, and only for download.

Give them time, and they'll probably release some more exclusives.

PS2 backwards compatibility was removed with the Slim, and possibly slightly before. I haven't seen the chart in awhile.

PS2s are cheap, though. I don't see much of a problem.
It was removed long before the Slim - I had my PS3 for over a year before the slim and it doesn't have backward compatibility - only the initial 60GB model has it - at least in the UK.

Can't you jailbreak the PS3 to run PS2 emus?
I don't think so. The original models had special hardware that was just for running PS2 games (I assume the PS1 wasn't much beyond a compact disc reader as far as reading disc goes)so it makes since for them to have only PS1 and PS3 if it's only a bit of software to run PS1 games. Unless you mean installed to the system memory then I wouldn't know if that works for PS2 games on non-standard PS2 compatible systems.

Yeah after like the 3rd version of (fat)PS3s the fully backwards compatible feature was cut due to lack of sales and cutting of costs (among other additional features like 4 USB slots down to just 2 and SD card slot in front.) So yeah all Slims and later designed PS3s all don't have standard PS2 reading functions.

Between the PSN and the fact that chucking a brick in any decent games shop will likely dislodge a fistful of PS2's from the woodwork, I don't see this as an issue for which the solution is releasing these old games on the PS3.
