LISTEN if i want to talk about abortion or whatever, ill go to yahoo.
if i want to talk about VIDEO GAMES i go to the ESCAPIST.

And for the haters who are ready to spam my mail as we speak, this is what Wikipedia had to say:
The Escapist (typeset as the escapist) is an online magazine covering video games, gamers, the gaming industry, and gaming culture.

EDIT: Someone cleared it up for me:

If someone posted an abortion issue topic on say, yahoo, they would want a mixed opinion of all sorts of people, from eighty year old racists to 11 year old emos.

But if they post it here they are looking for the opinion of Gamers and only gamers. Although we may have differences in opinion, we are all gamers.

None of those threads are in the gaming forum. Would you prefer another thread complaining about Black Ops or DA2?

I was under the assumption that "Gaming Discussion" is the part that is exclusively about games.

This is a community. A community might feel the need to talk about things outside one, limited topic from time to time, without having to go to a totally different place to do it.

Almost every forum board has an offtopic section.

Did you know the Escapist has multiple forums? One is gaming discussions and another is off-topic discussion. There is even a Forum Games and RP section! It's amazing!

Not to be rude dude, but yeah there are separate forums for each type of discussion the most recent posts thingy gives the most recent posts from all the forums (I think) not just the gaming forum.

I kinda like how we can talk about things that aren't video games from time to time. I mean, games are fun, but we shouldn't let them consume our lives to the point that they are all we talk about. Its nice to just have a random discussion with strangers every now and again.

honestly my guess would be since this is a site gamers visit frequently they would feel comfortable and accepted when posting in these here awesome forums. because lets face it: where else can you talk about this stuff yet have acceptance and politeness. (because people here are nicer to me than people at my school, yes this confirms I'm a noob to the internet, and no I'm not trying to complain about my school)

The majority of people here I'm guessing are gamers. So its handy to have other forums sections to get opinions and thoughts from people you know are probably similar too you. You can't get that from yahoo or whatever the hell you said

EDIT: The point is why are these on the escapist, and not somewhere else.

Because believe it or not, gamers have other things to discuss other than gaming. Plus, we have a gaming section to discuss about games.
I do not appreciate it when people use the wrong section to complain about things. This should have gone under off topic along with all the other stuff you complained about.
