remember in soldier of fortune 2 and call of duty 4 when you could lean around the corners? why was this feature ever removed from games? was it overpowered or do you think that it was a good feature and more realistic? i used to love leaning in soldier of fortune 2, was a great feature that helped in tense gunfights on the multiplayer, dam the multiplayer was great on that game

i thouht it added another tactical layer to combat, much better then "press a to stick to cover" as you could technically make your own cover depending on the enviroments etc

Played a recent game in which you could lean, might have been E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy, in fact. Not a great game, but still used a lot of the decent older mechanics.

They have it in Stalker games from what I've played of them. It doesn't really add that much to the game though, maybe it'll come back to fashion in a few years if all this kinect rubbish actually allows more interaction. If you think about the amount of controls you regularly use in an FPS, it's around or below 10, because beyond that it just gets complicated.

I still remember rifle only servers in CoD1. Clipping with lean was nigh essential for success. Now that's made me miss mp_harbor.

I do wish leaning was still a thing.

Fear 1 had leaning. But was somewhat awkward since i own the 360 version.

Wouldn't mind seeing it return since it did have its uses

I never used it. It was always so awkward compared to just sidestepping in and out of cover.

I'm not surprised it went the way of the dodo. I got better uses for the Q and E buttons.

You can lean in Amnesia: Dark Descent. Adds a lot to the way you play too.

It was never that big of a deal although I did kinda like it. I think it worked better on the PC with a keyboard.
I remember it was in FEAR 1 and then when I played 2 I kept trying to lean constantly and doing nothing. I kinda missed that in FEAR 2, among other things....

It's not a shooter, but I think Dishonored gives you that ability, which is handy, considering a first person stealth game would be incredibly difficult without being able to peak around corners.

I remember it being useful in some games, and sort of pointless in others. In STALKER it was awesome, but I do miss it in Battlefield 3. Sidestepping just doesn't cut it in that game.

Really? I found it vital to survive in Stalker. Sure, when you fight mutants you want to be in the open so you can avoid getting eaten, but once Monolith shows up, you better hug every corner you find. The lean button saved me from a number of scrapes.

I don't know how you could get through STALKER without it personally...

Getting my knees blown off by Monolith who I can't even see, while trying to peer around the small rock I am using as cover without losing my head as well... ah... so many good times.

Anyway, what with me being the cynical console hating windbag that I am [/sarcasm], I had always assumed that it was because there weren't enough buttons for it on a controller, and most of the time people port from console to PC, so are unlikely to add it in just for us.
