Right people, This applies to everyone so please sit listen for a moment, please[/I].

Recently ive been getting involved in increasingly hostile conversations with the anti-search bar brigade. Its now starting to get silly, as im beginning to turn into a search bar nazi (which i have been trying not to be).

We need official rules when it comes to repeat threads, and what classifies a repeat thread.

Something which i do when posting a new thread is;

1) Run a quick search through the bar, a few key words, etc. If its been done within the past 4 weeks, Necro. [/B]

And if i think a thread is a repeat thread i:

1) Check the search bar, using the keywords in the title
2) Check the dates if it has been done previously [/B]
And admittedly i dont always post links (im working on that!)
3) Post the most hated "please use the search bar" with the links.[/B]

Does it HONESTLY take that much longer just to click search?

So, My question to you, and probably to the escapist mods are:

What are the current OFFICIAL rules on thread repeats?
What can be done to rectify the current repeat thread problem?
Can any punishments be put in place for users that refuse to use the search bar, And likewise to users that false call when it comes to repeats?

EDIT[/B]
Please refrain from flaming as i dont really want this thread locked until we get somewhere with it.

It is not written, but I believe the unofficial rule for repeating is like 3 months or so. I'm not sure, though.

Do you mean that a thread that's three months old should be necroed or that it should be repeated?

I say two months for a necro. Anything beyond that, repeat.

Im ok with a 4 week rule. Dont necro just to say "lol yea" or "fo sho". If you are going to necro make it worth while. Other than that its all groovy cakes.
Thats what i say too. Some people think that us enforcing that with a polite (but read as smug.) notice to "please use the search bar".

After 3 months you are allowed to repeat. I agree with the 2 months rule, though. It seems fair enough.

I don't know why, but I don't see how repeated threads really bother people... to me it's silly to take something so mundane so seriously. Whatever, I guess.

Anyways, they are always going to happen because I don't think any of us on this site are interesting and creative enough to never make a repeated thread, it's just not going to happen. If they are so terrible why is it that the majority of users post and actually take the time to enjoy said repeated thread, and only a few others actually make a big deal out of it. People who have a problem with it are actually in the vast minority, and yet they don't realize it.

And yes using the search bar is easy, but ignoring a repeated thread is even easier.

True, but repeat threads push down other possibly more interesting threads. I dont think any of us have a problem with repition as much as we do with repetition on a daily basis. Its cool to make that metal thread but when it happens 3 times in a day or 10 times a week thats a bit much no?
It honestly doesn't really bother me, at all. But like I said people will still enjoy it so I don't see the the big deal about it. And every one of those metal threads yesterday got alot of responses.

Snip - see above for full post
you do have a fair point. Isnt it easier then to ignore the one post that says "please use the search bar"? you are right tho - No-one really reads all the pages of a really long thread (there was a thread about this a few days back) but

Pretty much trumps the arguement. You tend to find that the repeat threads are ones without merit, With very little subject matter (i.e superpowers, Favourite X).

Whatever gets rid of Fuhrerism is fine with me. I just go through a few pages with a few keywords, and then post if I find nothing fitting. Also, if you are going to be a Search Bar Fuhrer [SBF], please, do it politely, and don't get all sarcastic in the process. That's the only thing that is pissing me off. People are getting all sarcastic because they are mad of a repeat thread.
I searched "children" on that post and come up with three similar recent threads. I got annoyed at people refering to me as an SBF for pointing out a valid point.

A) it's never just ONE post;

B) someone's going to dispute that it's a repeat;

C) it's kind of a

on the thread--if people are just going to ignore it, why bring the thread down in the first place?
Its firefighting. I didnt notice the search bar until i read it in a thread.

Its just a case of looking before you cross the street. Look, Nothing there? Go for it. If you dont look you could get hit.
