REPORT: Comic Cover Causes Censorship Concerns

DC announced today that the comic that launched a thousand fanboys will be replaced with a different one and not be available for purchase.

"While we don't want to upset our loyal fans, we just can't believe the artist would have made a cover such as that. It's so bad I think I got eye cancer. Me no likey so we no selly. It's pure Business 101 logic that makes this industry the best that it can be" said DC Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras.

As expected, the decision was met with both sides of the shit on social media sites like Twitter. We here at TACO News shifted through tens of tweets in order to get the most offensive ones.

The prompt backlash on social media led to many blocks, mutes, bans and a general attitude of bickerishness among the people. Many calls for civility and proper debate were made but on Twitter, no one can hear you scream.

Oh my gosh. This is one of the funniest things I've read in a while and certainly the funniest thing this week. Isn't femfreq that fake account that masquerades as FemFreq? The funny thing is this like is absolutely something I could see both the real and fake accounts saying.

While I don't personally dislike the original cover that much, I think a lot of people are missing the point of a lot of the complaints by posting covers like this and presenting them as the same as the other cover. Just restraining or showing a superhero in peril wasn't the main thrust of what people were complaining about, as far as those complaints go anyway, as it also ignores the people who were complaining about the cover not fitting the tone and content of the current Batgirl run, but that's a different argument than the one you are talking about so we'll skip it.

The cover you posted shows a Batman that is restrained and in peril, but he is still an active character, shown resisting and yelling, whether out of anger or fear, he is still restrained and attempting to escape, defiant to the end and all that. With Barbara, there are no restraints or resistance, the joker just kind of lazily has his arm around her and there is no resistance or defiance on her part, she is frozen up and crying, you've got an active character, resisting and remaining defiant in the face of danger, i.e. Batman, versus a passive Batgirl that seems to have just frozen up Metroid:Other M style, without even being restrained or having the weapon in the picture pointing at her.

The better question would be to ask if the controversy would still be the same if the original cover had Barbara in a similar situation to the Batman cover you posted, with her restrained and actively resisting while the Joker threatens her life.

Well, it could be worse, they could have given it to one of those animation studios that edits anime for American T.V., instead of a walkie-talkie they would just replace it with a finger gun (Yu Gi Oh) or a boxing glove gun (One Piece). Although, the latter would probably fit Joker's character more.
