Hi,

So I'm away from university on my ridiculously long holidays (I get 6 weeks, lol), and looking for a game to sink some time into. Or several games. Not so important though I'd rather not spend too much money. Here's what I'm looking for, in order of importance:

On PC (req. specs: pretty much anything - the highest test I think has been Oblivion with all the graphics mods I could find, and that worked at around 30fps)

Some sort of Action RPG would be preferred. Not first person gameplay, or turn-based gameplay, ideally I want something kind of fast-paced and more towards the action hack and slashy gameplay. Also I'd like something that's rpg enough to have a reasonably interesting skill/leveling customization. I guess what I'm asking for is something like Kingdom Hearts on the PC. At the moment I'm toying with the idea of something shooty like Mass Effect or Fallout 3, but I'd really rather have some hacky-slashy stuff going on :)

Also preferrably not set in some Tolkienesque world. I.e. Elder Scrolls/Baldur's Gate/Dragon Age/Titan Quest/you get the idea. I'm just sick of it. Apart from that story isn't so important, though obviously it's all for the better if it's got a good story going for it as well...

Maybe this seems random/lazy but I thought there'd be loads of games that come under this description and well... I guess they are, they're just all on PS2. I guess what I really want is something like Kingdom Hearts or other JRPGs that don't have turn-based combat. Anyway, recommendations would be appreciated

Off the top of my head, good action games with at least some RPG elements:
Fallout 3.
Killing Floor.
Mount And Blade.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call Of Pripyat (I wrote a review about if a while ago, so feel free to dig through my posts for that).

There's probably more, but that's it looking at my Steam list of games.

OK, cool, I hadn't heard of Mount and Blade but it sounds like it's melee combat at least, I'll check it out

Unfortunately a) I've already played them and b) They're only for PS2.

There's a demo of it on Steam which allows you to do basically everything you can do in the full game.

League of Legends is great, the guys who made DotA basically made a new game with DotA as the concept, basically you're level 1 when the match starts, you go down your lane, level up off of mobs your base pumps out, buy items and pick skills(1 passive, 3 main, 1 ultimate), once you hit level 10 or so it becomes a team VS team setup of 5v5.
There's around 50 Champions(your character) to choose from, ranging from Tanks, Casters, Range, DPS and hybrids.
Matchs last about 25-60 minutes, the pacing is great, lots of RPG elements and fairly easy concepts to get your head around after 10-ish matchs.

Edit; League of Legends is free to boot.

I'd say Fallout 3 if you like a small amount of level grind, I did
S.T.A.L.K.E.R Call of Pripyat is a good choice too
Borderland is also another time sucking black hole

I haven't played call of pripyat yet, still actually on the first but I heartily recommend these games, plus mount and blade has some really nice mods available. I personally like 1866 (total conversion that turns it into a post civil war era setting).

Looks like they're not working on it much but that build is the one I run and it's fairly stable and mostly complete

this http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,150.0.html is the forum for the mod at taleworlds

Hey, thanks for the responses everyone. It seems that there's not really that much available of the sort of thing I have in mind, guess it's definitely more of a console thing - I suppose I could fire the old PS2 up. Apart from that Fallout 3 seems to be the one most people recommend, although looking at Sacred 2 it does seem to be the sort of thing I'd like, even if it is completely Tolkien fantasy world as far as I can tell.
The other main recommendation was Mount and Blade, which I might try. Apart from that I think most of the recommendations were either stuff that I didn't really fancy or aren't for PC or something.

I guess I'll go check Fallout 3 out, thanks everyone.
