As far as i can tell from reading articles on the subject, no official reason for the shutdown is apparent.

Damn it, you beat me to it.

Angels, sing thee to thy rest Visceral. You get to join the likes of Westwood, Origin, Maxis, Bullfrog, Pandemic, and other studios that EA has chewed up and spit out over the years. For what it's worth Visceral, I was more interested in your Star Wars game than yet another Battlefront, and I'd have loved a Dead Space 4 to come out some day.

As for the reason, here's the official quote:

?In [Project Ragtag?s] current form, it was shaping up to be a story-based, linear adventure game. Throughout the development process, we have been testing the game concept with players, listening to the feedback about what and how they want to play, and closely tracking fundamental shifts in the marketplace. It has become clear that to deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come, we needed to pivot the design. We will maintain the stunning visuals, authenticity in the Star Wars universe, and focus on bringing a Star Wars story to life. Importantly, we are shifting the game to be a broader experience that allows for more variety and player agency, leaning into the capabilities of our Frostbite engine and reimagining central elements of the game to give players a Star Wars adventure of greater depth and breadth to explore.?

TLDR, my guess is that feedback was against a linear, story-based game, and wanted something either multiplayer focused, open world, or both.

I wonder how long it'll take before Bioware will also be shut down. Though you could say that what Bioware used to be is already long gone at this point.

Can't say I care much. Yeah, Dead Space 1&2 were great but as a subsidiary of EA they never had creative control anyway. Just look at how shit Dead Space 3 was due to EA's meddling. Can't even remember any game they made after that.

I always check Eurogamer. I like the lay-out of their site and their articles can be quite good. Even if I often don't agree with them for me it's obvious that they love games.

Deja vu all over again. Sounds eerily similar to what happened with Bioware's Dragon Age and Mass Effect series'. Story-based, linear game shifted to a massive open world MMO-style fetch-quest-a-thon because market analysis says that's what sells. This is just more evidence that EA was the driving force behind all that. They bought Bioware, and then they fucked it up. Looks like the same thing is happening here.

Well, in that case I am officially going with my own headcannon as to how Dead Space ends.

Isaac and Carver make it back to Earth, slowly going insane all the while, and then they meet up with Ellie and a small group of survivors who are still sane somehow. This, of course, is the result of the fact that Lexine from Extraction is in the group, and we've already seen that she can somehow cancel out The Marker's power.
Not sure where to go from there, but I like to think that she's the key to stopping The Moons.

Lately I get most of my news from Kinda Funny, then read articles on Polygon and Kotaku.

Oh shit that's right, Visceral was a thing 6 years ago! Man, talk about zombie developer. Glad to see EA finally put it down.

To reiterate Ross Scott's original sentiment, "Kill, kill, kill." It just never ends with these guys, does it?

Well fuck. Jim certainly called it. God damn it. I got Dead Space on a GOG sale but never plated it. I know what I'm doing now.
