I'm planning on getting a Nintendo (NES) console in the near future, (partly because I've been watching a lot of AVGN, partly because I don't have money for a new console like the PS3 or Xbox 360) however I've realized that I have no idea what games I should purchase for it. Of course, I'm planning to get Mario and Zelda, but what else should I buy? And please include other well-known games, because I probably still haven't heard of them or I've forgotten about them (the oldest console I own is the PS1). Thank you!

I'd look into Duck Hunt. Oh and Bubble Bobble. There are plenty of others but I'm too lazy to post them.

Kirby's Adventure is pretty awesome if you don't mind how easy it is. (By "Mario" you do mean Super Mario Bros 3 right?)

You could try http://www.virtualnes.com/index.html or of course the Wii's Virtual console.

I mean to get all three, though I have heard that Super Mario Bros. 3 is the best.

Honestly I've got 2 NESes and a Wii, imo just get a Wii and buy games on the virtual console. Well that's if you're interested in the actual games. Having an actual NES is only worth being able to say you own an NES, so if you're a collector or something then go ahead. Generally they aren't in the best condition and starting up games is a *****, and they also freeze easily. A classic controller is also less deadly on your hands for extended amounts of time.

Whichever you choose, Mario/Duckhunt and Mario 3 are a must, the second is really different but fun too. Donkey Kong Jr. is fun, and the Contra games are awesome. And you can get Battletoads if you want to be a troll and go buy it in stores. Its actually really well made for an NES game but its too fucking hard.

Bubble Bobble, Megaman 2, Blaster Master, Balloon Fight (probably the most underrated NES game), and Bionic Commando

All the huge franchises, of course.

Bionic Commando was a gem of 8 bit goodness. I've got a soft spot for the old Uninvited/Shadowgate/Deja Vu games. Tecmo Bowl. Excitebike. The old Castlevanias, of course, and Ninja Gaidens. Dunno how well many would think Metroid has aged, but one of my favorites ever. TMNT The Arcade Game.

...I'm going to stop myself before I relive my childhood video-gaming.

One more thing: Top-loader versus front-loader. Top loader > front loader, yes/no?
Well, the Top loader is arguably easier to clean, but they're also somewhat more difficult to find.

Go with whatever you can get your hands on easier.
