Review: Portal
Cake, cake, and sweet passionate love.

Portal is fucking amazing. It takes a FPS and makes it into a puzzle game. What a great fucking idea. What makes Portal even more amazing is the storyline and well GLaDOS. Let us not forget the promise of cake. Needless to say it has become a cult classic as much as Juno or even the old-school Big Lebowski. The idea is the same; taking something that is there and put enough spin on it to create something unique. There is no point in which I can say I was disappointed with this game; everything about it is sheer genius. Like Wild E. Coyote, just super. What really makes this game great is the progression of the puzzles and advancement of the story. The story is nothing special, but yet because of a few choice moves and sound bites it is the part of the game really works. Nothing for me has compared to this game except for the recently release of Braid (a puzzle game, which success is a large part attributed to Portal). Everyone, even players who don't care for puzzle games should at least try this game. Let them eat cake, I say. They will love it!

I... i feel nothing but rage.

You couldn't put more effort into what must be the escapists 40th portal review?

1/10, more effort required.

Too manny buzzwords to be called a review. Also gamers should never use the words "cult classic", or liken portal to anyting.

PS: What does Braid owe portal?

Too short - No real infomation about the game, and don't swear - you don't have to.

A bit short and no new praises that hasnt been repeated indefinetly by every gamer who has played it. But i give you a imaginary point for agreeing with what i thought of the game. :)

Anyway, congrats on finishing this great piece of game.

Where is the review? (Joke)

Yeah, it's too short.

I should shut up. I haven't redeemed myself from the Escapist review, yet...

THis is the kind of game review I'd expect to read in the paper.

It'd be great for there, but here, people expect more substance.

Not a particularly good review, very disjointed. I mean where did the Wile E. Coyote and Juno references come from for a start? Portal is hardly a cult classic anyway, especially withthin the gaming community.

I don't read user reviews often, but as other people have said this one has been reviewed to death, so if you insist on reviewing it now you should offer an interesting, well thought out and well written review at the least.

I found the game to have a dark sense of humor, good graphics for its time, a thinkers game, and to be played like a puzzle for the inquisitive, not for the kind of people who play it as fast as they possibly can, I rather liked it for all of it's glory.

1/10

You made claims about the game, but haven't backed it up with evidence from the game itself. Also, too short.

Pretty much sums it up, really.

The entire review just sounds like a fanboy being a fanboy, hrm.

I quite liked portal too. I thought it was a nice idea to combine FPS with puzzle games. Although all the way through I was waiting for some enemies to come and jump me, all there seemed to be was some turrets which could be easily disabled.
I'm fairly new to console gaming and not yet a master of my controller, so I thought that the gradient of difficulty suited me fine. Not being the best problem solver in the world, the game gently guided me in the right direction, until I had figured out enough to play confidently. After you complete the game, you unlock the extended content, which consists of the same rooms, but with more obsticles and time trials, etc, for those gamers that need that little bit more from the game.
I liked the story-line as it was nice and simple, although it seemed more like a situation than a story, but hey, you dont need to know why your in the testing facility, you just need to get to the cake :) It's quite hard to right a story without really writing a full length epic, yet still keeping enough attention to keep people interested.
I really appreciated GLaDOS, the voice and the things she said added a nice touch ofmore adult content for what, at the begining, seemed to be quite a happy puzzlegame. And also the ending was quite ambiguous which tied in with the lack of real information about why your there, who you are, etc...
I enjoyed this game, and I think everyone should play it even just once, because there won't be anything much like it, without being a blatant copy :)
(This is just my opinion, so if i've got any facts wrong, then apologies.)
