Silent Hill Shattered Memories was developed by Climax studio and is to date the final game Akira Yamaoka will work on for the series. So, here's the break down. The game first warns it will psychologically break down who you are. And this platform is about as accurate as the quizzes on Facebook. In the game you're Harry Mason and you once again lost your daughter. So, you're running all over creation. And Climax brings back the "Two Worlds" theory again. You meet the same people from the original game. And you meet two new faces.
Now in Silent Hill Origins they did the shifting world platform. Were you have to investigate and travel through more rooms than ever before. Silent Hill in Shattered Memories doesn't really home in on the "Two Worlds" aspect. Infact, when the world shifts from Normality to Darkness I did feel scared of the change. And that's what you're suppose to feel in this game. In Origins they couldn't define the "Two Worlds" clearly. Obviously because it didn't matter if you were in the Darkness or not. Monsters were still around every freaking corner. In Shattered Memories it's polar opposite. I think Climax learned a little something from the previous endeavor. Another thing... Something Climax sucked ass at was the Claustrophobia with the flash light. In Origins it was just wrong, but they hit the mark on the phobia this time around. Cheerio guys!

So the game starts off with finding Cheryl. And in the process we meet Cyble Bennet from the original. However, something tells me Silent Hill isn't as abandoned as we thought it was from the original. The original made Silent Hill a ghost town. This new installment made me feel like the town is just mundane and typical. Just like the town you may be living in yourself. And you're the ONLY ONE who feels it's gone to hell in an ice cold hand basket. Maybe Hell did freeze over...?
After having a quick chat with Cyble we leave to go back were we started. Atmospherically Silent Hill is in a winter storm (Kinda like how it's described in the original). And when the shift to the darkness comes it's not the typical industrial style we're use to see from the original. No, time stands still... snow isn't falling anymore and the world is frozen, locked in a nightmare. So, this is the point were we run for our freaking life.
Demons (Zombie People) come running after you. Hunting you down. The hunter becomes the hunted. And the panic mode kicks in for the player. This is highly effective. Now, the greatest part behind this segment of the game is how you can't fight the monsters. The only thing you have to help yourself is a freaking flair. A flair which stops you from using your GPS to navigate through the nightmare. Second, it allows you to see things more better than the flashlight. And the most important... Apparently, Demons (Zombie People) don't like them, BONUS! The most frustrating part behind the Darkness is getting so easily turned around. It becomes panicky, freaky, and frustrating because it seemed to me the longer I lasted in the Darkness (even though most of the time it's pretty well laid out were to run to) the more likely it was for me to die from the Demon (Zombie People). So, it's a segment in the game which isn't suppose to be like: "Oh, it's just the Darkness." The usual attitude I had in previous games.
By the way, don't get stressed out about the GPS (Map) because you'll be all over the joint. Most of the time though it's liner & unlike previous games you can't really just explore Silent Hill. So it's almost like Climax Studio gets the golden star immediately ripped off. Also, don't worry about what style the game starts (It will be different) either way it'll get you on track to the main plot line of finding Cheryl.
Puzzles will kick your ass the first time around. I can only recall two puzzles which took at least 30 mins. to complete. And the greatest part to this segment of the game is the phone. There's typically three puzzles. The first would be just the typical "Do this and progress the story." Or, find the keys to unlock the door. The second puzzle would be the momentos. COLLECT THEM ALL. The other puzzles would be finding those damn "Shadow People." These are shadows you can find randomly in arias of Silent Hill. And these photos don't necessarily progress the game. But it's one of those "Find them all" deals. Which probably help your scores. Finally, the Shattered Memories.... There's random arias of ghost like presents in Silent Hill will give you voice mails & text messages. And these help you progress through the game ONLY ONCE! So, really it's just a stall to your goal.
But the way you use the Wii Remote to listen to your voice mails or make personal calls is really cool. It can make the game feel so life like when one holds the remote like a cell phone. Though you don't say anything, it adds to the style.... This game seems to be all about STYLE....

So, what's wrong with this game? At first it persuades you to think it's just like the first game in a new and fresh version. However, after a while of playing the game it turns into a monster of its own. Well, more like a monster of myself. And I already know my issues... I don't need a video game to give me dumb ass questions I can find on FaceBook. If I need to know about my inner psyche I'll go onto Facebook and do a quiz about how I feel about my family. Or my relationships, did I mention this game is REALLY sexual. Yeah, crazy sexual innuendoes. & Silent Hill's been sexual since Pyramid Head was fucking those four legged monsters. But at least it was tasteful and unexpected. This video game starts straight off the bat with letting you know it's about sex. Sex E.D. WE GET IT!
Is Silent Hill Shattered Memories a good game? Yes, it delivers a fresh new story. It touches on the original & the third game. Yet it doesn't just play safe. It also takes risks in game play and style. On those merits I'll say it's a good story and video game. Here's the game in a gist from my one play threw.
It scared me, it made me Claustrophobic, it also had my adrenaline going, and the story line made it's own foot print without stepping over or over shadowing the original. It made me feel like it respected it's origin. I feel that they colored a picture and made sure they stayed inside the lines this time. Go get the game because it's great for the collection. Get the game because it's a really good "Retelling of the story" with it's own twist. You're not getting the original in this game.

P.S. Still having issues with TextEdit... Gah! Commas and other Grammar errors are in this review. I KNOW THIS, and I'll try to revise it later. Copy Past can only work so far... It's been my plague... :/ And BTW, my paragraphs show they are indented in EDIT mode. But they don't show on the post. So... It's whatever...
