Car crashes in a car race. Shocker. After watching two or three Top Gear episodes I wouldn't trust any of them behind a wheel (or in Hammond's case, handle bars either ... he's a shockingly bad motorcyclist), but a Croatian built experimental electric car leaving a wreck like that I feel is less human error and more of a design flaw as responsible.
Incredibly lucky. There's few instances where a wreck that torched would leave the driver only 'injured'. Lithium ion phosphate battery with a liquid cooled magnetic p-synchronous motor? Yeah ... very lucky. As one can tell from the footage. But, hey ... someone has to be a martyr in the name of science and engineering. And if that someone just happens to be Hammond, so be it.
I'm a motorcyclist by heart, that's where my love of vehicles begins and ends (I have a passing fondness for helicopters as well). But I will still be putting fossil fuels into my internal combustion engine until at least 15+ years of this technology being hammered out for two wheels ...
