I got a new phone recently. While exploring all the bells and whistle of my new device, I discovered I could upload any song I want to use as a ringtone. So, the obvious first choice was this:
I was wondering does anyone still have or use ringtones on their phone? What are some of the worst and best ringtones have you heard? What song would you recommend using as a ringtone?

People don't use ringtone for their phone? Well ok I do know that (the amount of time a customer phones goes off at work) especially when I had to download a software to allow my Samsung phone to do it in the first place (what the hell? I thought that was standard feature on all phones?). I thought young people still used whatever songs as their ringtone than the built in ones.

OT- It used to be "Fly away now" or "Scanty and Kneesock theme" from Panty and Stocking OST but I changed it cos I end up getting dread when my phone rang (unexpected people or caller ring me). Right now it's "Hook on a feeling" which you can thank the Guardian of the Galaxy for that.

I don't think I'll ever replace the Space Jam Theme for my ringtone.

I just use some beepy bells and whistles, because it doesn't really matter what the sound of incoming telephone call is.

I have the first 20 seconds from Supercell's Kimi No Shiranai, the closing theme from bakemonogatari as my ringtone. Tune here:

But actually the best ringtone I ever heard was when a previous boss decided that we should have a project theme tune to reflect just how well everything was going - which he did actually load up as a ringtone for a while (NSFW warning for language obviously!) -

It's funny that you mention that one. After having the same ringtone for about 6 years, namely this one:

I changed mine to this one a few days ago after spamming Slam Jam remixes for almost an hour:

And put the Pokemon Theme version as my alarm clock. Because awesome, that's why. This post has prompted me to spam Slam Jam remixes for an hour again, while I'm making a new D&D character this time. I'll never look at this Paladin again without hearing COME ON AND SLAM again. I regret nothing.

If I hear you using the default ringtone on your phone, then I am going to judge you. So hard.
Found some appropriate soundbites ripped from some C&C games to alarm me of new texts("Incoming transmission!") or emails("Warning!").

I don't have a ringtone.

I am actually very surprised that people do still use ringtones as my phone is always on vibrate so I've never had any need or desire to put a ringtone onto it. Am....am I the weird one? No....I'm normal. I'm super normal! Don't let them bring you down tippy2k2! It's perfectly normal to not have a ringtone and to speak to yourself in this manner. Perfectly normal!

Back in my younger man days, I had the Mission Impossible Theme as my ringtone but when I got a new phone and realized that I never ever used it because it's always on vibrate, I didn't bother with it again.

I actually noticed that the few calls I usually got I missed because I had it on vibrate only. Same with sometimes important texts too. So I set my phone on loud a few days ago for the first time in years. Except for WhatsApp, because I get spammed to death on that and there's only so many times you can hear Zelda's "Item Get" sting.

Preach it XKCD.

So yeah, my phone makes a "brrring brrring" sounds when someone rings me.

For some reason that I would find difficult to describe I detest the idea of using a song for a ringtone. It's just a noise to get my attention. I don't really need to be serenaded by a song, or rather the first five seconds of a song before I shut it off to answer the damn phone.

Funnily enough on my first phone I actually had to find, pay for and download a normal ringing sound because all the phone came with was a few crappy songs and some beepy boopy monstrosities.

Well, there's this game that I like...

I've occasionally talked about it from time to time...

And my ringtone might be from said game's soundtrack...

Pretty much guarantees weird reactions from nearby people whenever someone tries to call me.

At the moment my ringtone when someone calls me, is a song called Cold Heaven by a band called Axel Rudi Pell.
My tone when someone texts me is the sound when you acquire an item in the Legend of Zelda game.
And when I get an announcement from a third party thing like Whatsapp or the Facebook messenger, then it makes the sound of a lasergun.
So 3 different tones for 3 different sorts of ways to contact me.

I'm the type of guy who sets a separate ringtone for each of my friends, so I know whether to bother answering the phone or not, so to list them all would take waay too long.

So I'll just leave my main two ringtones here.

and here

Truly, I can smile again.

Thank you for the replies so far. I'm going to have to set aside some time to check out these videos.

The worst song I've heard for a ringtone was from a customer I was helping when I was working retail. She was very frustrating to deal with. Then her phone rang, it was Beep by The Pussycat Dolls. By that time, I was tempting to say some words that needed to be censored with beeps.

The only time I ever downloaded a ringtone to my phone was this song.
One song I had in mind to use was maybe too melancholy to use, but I liked the title. Are You Alright by Lucinda Williams. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlpbzr46z_E

Another song, I don't know what it is. It sounds like it's from the point of view of someone who has recently died. I just remember the line: "Hello, from the other side." That would be spooky to use as a ringtone.

I actually had to check...no one ever calls me.

General notifications and texts are all either silent or on vibrate. Phone calls I apparently set it to

I have the 2008 Doctor Who theme song.

It's really distinct and easy to hear regardless of where I am which is why I like it so much.

I somewhat agree. Not that I believe there aren't any songs that could make a good ringtone; there are, but I tend to view songs as ringtones the same way I view photos as desktop-wallpapers. There are good photos that could make a great background, but that doesn't mean your shitty, vertically-oriented photo of you and your friends tiled across the screen isn't a hideous monstrosity. Likewise, your favorite song truncated down and played through a shitty phone speaker also makes a shitty ringtone unless it is selected carefully.
