Has anyone else seen this series?

I know it's kind of old, but the first PS2 game was great and I grew up watching it on 'questionable' VHS hand-me-downs.

Edit: FYI, Robotech was the American renaming because they didn't think they could market Macross.

Of course, years later, Macross Plus proved those execs wrong.

Yeah, but don't forget MP was released YEARS after - Robotech was a forerunner of anime in the USA.

I remember the bosses of that game being randomly really hard for no reason, and the ending was awful and depressing.

That was an awesome show, as I remember it.
I watched some recently, and now I realize I don't really like the dubbing that they did. Mostly I hate how the narrator happens to summarize everything onscreen, as you are seeing it. It's violating the rule of "SHOW, DON'T TELL" pretty badly there. Otherwise it was a very competent show that had kickass space-battles and some mechs that were so awesome, they were blatantly stolen when Battletech used them.

Never watched more than a couple of episodes of the series, but I played a lot of the RPG (you know, a proper one with paper and dice) and loved it.

Yes and no, Robotech is more then just Macross, its also Super dimension calvary southern cross and genesis climber MOSPEADA

Plus it wasn't they didn't think that Macross wouldn't sell its just the number of episodes wouldn't sell for the american market and TV stations at the time (Things have changed).

Personally I prefer Macross myself, I like the direction they went with the IP better then Robotech, anyways to answer OP's question yes and it was good but macross with all its seasons is the way to go.

My friends and I used to watch this every day after high school. It seemed very risque in the 80s for a cartoon to have characters that had sex (if very PG13 sex) and relationship drama. I have the full DVD set (for all three series) and sometimes torture my husband by playing any scene that has Minmei singing her one song; it is the small things that keep a marriage strong.

I've seen the original Macross, and let me tell you: NOT a fan. Macross Plus and Zero are amazing, though, and Frontier was okay.

I will never forgive Harmony Gold for their part in killing FASA.
