I've been playing a lot of my rome:total war lately and i've always noticed how retarded my troops get during a siege. If i direct my ballistas to shoot down the enemy gate the shoot at the gate house for no reason until they run out of ammo!
Also if I direct my troops to take formation on a wall they suddenly just run and huddle together in a little blob formation with no organization. As well as that if I tell them to charge at the enemy during the siege they either run in a random direction twords the enemy or just run at their direction and bump into them instead of properly charging. Has anyone else noticed this?

Good. Yes. Brilliant. Not so much =/
It's a decent enough game but they really could have improved it a lot more.
But i wouldn't go so far as to call it shit.

It was my first real RTS and I loved it. Im going to have biased opinions but still a fun game.

You want to try online and try find some mod maps. Very fun.

It wasn't my first but I still enjoy it. And i still don't think I have it right cause no matter what i do, no matter what i build I can't stop my squalor levels from rising and my population levels dropping =/
New maps?
Anything cool?

I never played past the first level. Seemed like AoE II zoomed in and I can't make any troop or convert all the female villagers.

Not new. Custom created maps. They;re hard to find but some are really good. I cant remember the name of some because my CD broke quite a while ago.

I had no problem with squalor for the most part. Always try building Aquaducts and the like before you build ANYTHING else. Thats what I always do and nothing like that happens

It was a fun but flawed game.

I once defeated an entire army with only a unit of archers but for the rest of the unit controls they where clumsy.

There seems to be something fundamentally wrong with this statement...

I know what it is! You forgot that for some reason the game won't let you move your units around anymore unless you click the shiny button at the bottom! I mean, what kind of RTS is this?!!

And then they let the enemy move and you can't do anything about it... seriously, you'd think this was a turn based g... wait a minute.

On a non-humourous note, I enjoyed the game, though the stupid battlefield AI did make me want to start slaughtering settlements relentlessly... I was thouroughly addicted to it at one point. I can't seem to get back into it though...

Yeah the AI wasn`t the greatest(i have fond memories of watching the mighty general hannbals elephants being defeated by a wall enabling me to archer them to death as they meanderd around trying to find a door) but the grand campeigns (and the ability to auto-resolve battles)more than made up for that

I only played it once. I started the first story mode or whatever, got to the map screen, and after one battle it went back to the screen, and at that point I was too bored to go on. Great, I can't find my Age of Empires II cds, but I still have all three of my Rome: Total War cds. Damnit.

I remember I used to defend a lot and the enemy's would more often than not line up in front of my cannon towers and get gunned down. I had to fast forward all my battles until we killed them all. Ugh.

But still a great game

This happens in all the Total War games. No matter what, you can count on your units being dipshits if there's a siege. I really hoped they'd fix it in Empire, but it was even worse there. Go figure.
