Rumor: the 2 Avengers Infinity War movies will have a combined budget of a billion.

That almost seems cheap given how ludicrous the casting budget is likely to be.

I'd expect Marvel to cull/kill some of their more established franchises with these films, not so much because they want to, but more because affording them on a go forward basis is going to become prohibitive.

Cap or Stark HAD to die in Civil War since that would so how badly things have gotten

Really why does someone dying elevate the gravitas of the situation? The last fight between Cap and Stark says more for the characters than if either of them had died. Cap was within a hairs breath of killing Stark but his character stopped him from doing that, and had Cap not gotten in the way I believe that Stark would have killed Bucky. Struggling with having to kill a friend to get your revenge was more effective, seeing either of them die would have added nothing to it.

How that fact is handled in the next team up movie is more important, if they just come together and are all good buddies again then yeah poorly handled but if it proves to be a point of conflict even stretching in to the visions that Stark had in Age Of Ultron about how he killed his friends, then yeah nice.

As for the budget, well I imagine the actor payroll is going to be quite high for these two movies given the potential character list, fuck by that stage Marvel will have had just about ever actor in Hollywood on it's books so I would imagine that will cost a fair bit.

Well that's just going to make me hope that the movie crashes and burns to spite their hubris, and I LIKE the marvel cinematic universe.

Damn, beat me to it. This is the only thing I'm actually waiting for from Marvel.

As for the movie itself, I'm pretty sure it will involve the Avengers fighting an otherworldy threat, them learning to work as a team to stop the laser beam shooting into the sky.

I'm not buying it. Unless that includes the marketing for both (because Disney goes WAY overboard with the foreign marketing, particularly in Asia) there's imply no way it's that high.

You are correct. In the video you see him doubling everything because it is 2 movies. Plus he goes on to say that half of that is the actual budget. He is estimating this:

Avengers: Infinity War 1 - $250m budget. $250-350m marketing.
Avengers: Infinity War 2 - $250m budget. $250-350m marketing.

Total: 1 or 1.2 billion dollars.

Which is standard formula based off the budget of Civil War and BvS. So this isnt even anything we have never seen before going off that perspective. It is actually on par with what has already been happening. Its just adding marketing and the budgets of 2 high profile blockbuster movies.
