Why go to an academy to buy running shoes? Try a shoe store, or google 'running shoes'.

EDIT: What type of running? Track, Cross Country, Street ect. ?
Mainly because academy is the only closest store in a 50 mile radius that isnt wal-mart that supplies sporting equipment.

As for the type of running, it is purely cardio exercise. I plan on running 2 miles a day when I can.

In forest or on concrete? If in a forest I'd recommend getting running shoes with spikes. Regardless you shouldn't have to spend over $60.
Concrete and forest. Any gimmickey sale shit I need to watch out for?

I'd recommend Vibram Five Fingers. Check them out, I use them all the time, awesome stuff. You'll have to give them time though, learn a new way to run. Saves your knees though.

Go to a real shoe store. Not Academy or Wal-Mart, but one that JUST sells shoes. If you live in a big enough city, then you should be able to find one that JUST sells running shoes.

Once you find this store, go in and tell them you need a new pair of shoes. Let them know your price range and what surface you will be running on. If it is a good shoe store, then the employee will probably measure your arch, and might even ask you to run a bit on a treadmill to see how your feet move when you run. Let them pick out the right shoes for you, as they'll be able to tell you a pair that fits perfectly for your feet.

Get the Usain bolt running shoes, they've got a little Jamaica flag on them. With those bad boys it's said you can break the sound barrier

Try the Foot Locker. I'm not sure if that's a Stateside store only, but if it is you might still be able to get stuff online. I got my running shoes there for cross country season, and they're amazing.

I've personally had very good experience with Asics.

A good trick in determining how much support shoes give is to take the toes and bend them towards the heel (without your foot in them of course).

If it bends easily then they're crappy shoes. Nike and Adidas, with a few exceptions, usually bend this way.

If it takes some strength to bend then you've got a good pair. Asics, in my experience, does very well in this. But there's bound to be other brands as well.
