sacrificing your life...

we've all heard of it before: someone dying to save someone else. I've been wondering, if i could do something like that, and if it's ultimately worth it? cause when you die someone is gonna be sad, no matter what you might think, and even if you save the one you love, someone will still have died. and then the one you love is going to go through the pain you would have had to go through if you hadn't saved them.

so what I'm asking is: is there any situation where you would sacrifice your self without hesitating or regretting? one where you wouldn't fear death in the slightest, even when knowing someone will go through the worst pain possible because of it? and do you think such a move is worth making?

Yeah I probably wouldn't give it much thought.

Just generally if I think it's someone worth saving.

If it's someone I hate I'd let the bastard die.

The only people I can think of sacrificing myself for, are my future wife and kids, and possibly my father.
Everyone else can go jump off a cliff before I die.
And I suppose my cousins as well....

yes, standing there looking at the person i love dying is something i could not do.

i don't care that the person would be grieving.....it least he/she won't be dead.

Close friends and close family I'd easily sacrifice my life for. I'd normally get in the way of a weapon if I had the chance, or at least try to draw some attention to myself rather than them.

It really depends on the people I'm saving. If it's a choice between my family/friends dying or me dying, then I would sacrifice myself. If it's a bunch of strangers, it'd have to be quite a lot of them for me to do it.

I honestly don't think I would, unless I had nothing to live for and wanted to feel somewhat useful again.
Sacrificing my own skin to save someone else would leave a lot of people close to me sad, and I just wouldn't want that. If there was nothing else that could be done, then yes I would.

Well for a complete stranger I would probably only go as far as to risk my life for them. I'd try to help them but only if there was a chance I would come out unharmed.

I wouldn't hesitate to take a bullet for my friends and family though...

Or at least I'd like to think I would, I'm not naive enough to believe there isn't a chance I would just coward out and cry in a corner.

Also maybe the person in question would prefer to die rather than have someone die for them... I would.

Just a thought.

I would only sacrifice myself if I would be saving a shitload of people as a result. Like millions of people.

I'd risk my life for less but I have a chance of making it out in that scenario. To be guaranteed death though, it'd have to be pretty epic to be worth it.

Depends, if it's for more than one person then pretty much yes in most situations. For a single person, I think it would either have to be someone very close to me or someone with a worthwile cause in life such as doctor or fireman ect.

It depends on the person and situation. If, say its some stranger then i doubt i would risk my life to save them.

Yeah, i'm selfish. Who cares? But if it's a best friend of family member i care about then... i'm not sure.

Sacrificing myself?...For my little brothers and sisters, yes, without a doubt. For my fellow Royal Marines, without a doubt.

Anyone else? Probably not.
