Allow me to start with something that has haunted me since my early childhood.

I kept thinking, "No, it's okay. You've done plenty now. I can make it from here. Just save yourself! Really, get out of here now! No! Stop! Run for your life! NO NO NOOOO!!!!" Heartbreaking...

The conclusion to Red Dead Redemption. I was not actually prepared for that. Keeping the Rockstar theme I was not prepared for the potential fate of Roman in GTA either.

When Isara died in Valkyria Chronicles
Yeah that part was just horrible, well pretty much most parts of Valkyria were extremely sad.

Nobody interested huh? I'll keep that in mind, haha.
If others are like me, they have no idea what this thread is supposed to be about. I see a screenshot in which I can barely make out what's going on, along with some non-explanatory text.

I guess I could respond to the topic title... I think my saddest moment in games is when you-know-who dies in FF7. Or if you meant the saddest, most pathetic failure, it's probably not being able to get past the opening level (I guess) in one very old Tomb Raider game (I think it was TR2).

There's a spoilerific moment late in 'The Longest Journey' where the main protagonist confronts an issue from her past. That scene I felt was genuinely well done and emotionally touching. Most games tend to use manipulative tricks to try and get a reaction without actually having the depth to back it up, and being the cynical sort that I am, I hate it when I notice a game is trying to manipulate me in that way. Tends to make me more frustrated than any of the emotions they're obviously fishing for. Thankfully with The Longest Journey that wasn't the case and I very much enjoyed that scene. Very well done!

Another that pops to mind is Beyond Good & Evil, when the children are kidnapped. The game did a good job of portraying Jade as a character who honestly cared about these people and so even though I couldn't care less about the kids themselves, her reaction was touching.

The ending of Heavy Rain. There was happiness in some of the possible endings, but most of them were just dead depressing. Especially the worst ending (which I got the first time around).

Oh come on now... I know that it doesn't seem as cool to play games from huge corporations but EA has some great stuff.

MGS may be 90% cut scenes, but still... it gets in your blood.
I'll always remember the plots of the MGS games, where I've forgotten so many other games

*drum rimshot*

As for me, one of the saddest parts has always been when Tellah dies in FF4. Throws his life away for nothing and the music that kicks in when he dies (I think the song is actually called "Cry in Sorrow") just yanks the tears right out of me. Same with when the twins turn themselves to stone to stop the walls from closing in.

E-DE in FNV lonesome road, I decided to reload the save and nuke everyone rather than lose him (I was full on 'go NCR' before). I couldn't let something that cute die.

This is an old one that most might not get but finding out Bossman died in the Wing Commander series was sad for me.

That's a perfectly fair point. Sorry about that. If you've played Super Metroid, you'd know exactly what I was talking about but not everybody has had that opportunity. Sorry for being egocentric. I'll take this into consideration in my future thread topics.

I'd have to say the ending to the E-102 Y story line in Sonic Adventure. Poor robot only wanted to have a heart and save his robot friends.

first time i saw that scene was out of context, it was a rental, and i loaded some one else's games, and needless to say, scared the shit out of me 'ohfuckohfuckohfuck, get up!!!, damn it get the fuck up!!' was my train of thought. then it started healing me and i got confused, then it died, and i was PISSED.

thought now, with full knowledge of events to that point, it is kind of sad, but least there's the closure of revenge, i still grin a bit at mother brains cry's of pain from the hyper beam
