Saints Row: The Third Initiation Station Demo

So I was over on GameSpot and they are handing out codes the SR3 character creation demo (Xbox 360, dunno about other platforms). I'll go redeem the code in the morning and get to work, then eventually post a pic of my creation here, but in the meantime you guys should probably take a look too. This is exactly what I wanted, at least before the game comes out and it also allows you to upload your character and download other peoples' uploaded characters to use in your game too. Bravo Volition. Bravo.

The earlier saints row 3 trailers were a lot more awesome, I wonder if they've run out of exciting things to show already. Also I cant be sure if theyre just badly advertising this to women or shamelessly aiming at little boys who are going to play a female character.... On the other hand its saints row, why did I just over think all that.

Cannot wait to try this when I get home. In SR2 I spent so much time customizing and changing my character. I'm pretty stoked to see how they've (hopefully) improved the system.

Looks like they're merged indeed. You can still select specific underwear but undershirts/overshirts/coats seem to have merged to a single entity.

It's a resource balancing issue, especially on the consoles due to the limitations in memory. Given all the other stuff in SR3, when you see it, I think it's an acceptable tradeoff.

It fuckin' sucks. They removed the one thing that made customization so great - layering. They've dumbed down customization options for clothing for about 90%. You can't mix and match clothing any more. You have suits and you can only change the color or upper and lower parts. And that's how it's gonna be in the actual game as well. You know why? Because they want to be able to sell you clothing DLC later. They wouldn't be able to do that if they gave us the same amount of customization freedom as in Saints Row 2. They have some kind of cop-out explanation for the decision they made with customization, but you'd have to be an idiot to believe it. I feel so cheated.

The art quality and variety, population density and such went up, at the expense of less clothing customization options. You only have so much RAM to store everything after all.

As long as you don't have the PC port you're sound. The 360 and PS3 versions were both pretty stable if I remember correctly.

As long as you don't have the PC port you're sound. The 360 and PS3 versions were both pretty stable if I remember correctly.

I just checked their Metacritic scores for both platforms, the 360 version has an average of 81 and the PS3 has 82, so it appears that there's no difference between the two on a tech level.

Yeah technically they're the same on both consoles. However, the PS3 version doesn't have trophies, so if you're someone who likes to get achievements/trophies then get the 360 version. If you're not too bothered then get it for either console.

The graphics are pretty shitty by todays standards to be honest. I mean I'm not a graphics whore or anything but they are downright hideous with the extreme amount of jaggies everywhere. They didn't put AA in the game at all. That being said, it's fucking awesome!

Nah, I don't plan on playing SR2. Just wanted to know if Volition pulled a Bethesda and made the PS3 version a worse version. Just so I know where I stand with SR3.

Ooooh, thanks for the tip! I can't wait to get started tweaking my character. These things take time, and dedication, you know. Or, occasionally, a 'randomize' function.
