Fallout3, GTA4, RDR, Mafia2, Assassin's Creed, the list goes on . . . and I've just realized that half the games I own come with ridiculous gigantic wall posters of their game maps. What is WITH these things? Does anybody actually hang them up? Or consult them, in favor of pushing the select button?

Right? You just feel like that would be a little.......off.

Today, videogame maps. Tomorrow, anime-themed body pillows.

I used to do it with GTA San Andreas because it had markers on it that weren't on the in game map.

Not on any of the others, I didn't even realise Fallout had one.

I thought Fallout had one . . . maybe I'm just imagining. It's hard to remember because I always just yank them out and pitch them.

One came with the Fallout 3 strategy guide. It's also the only map I've ever used for a game.

I do. They're awesome. Morrowind's map was the best, as it was a hand drawn thing that just matched up with the game.

The OP does realize they've been doing the poster-map thing since gaming started, right? Back before the internet when you could just look shit up with a mouse-click.

Personally, I think they add a neat little artistic touch when done well and while I'd never hang one on a wall, I used to use them all the time back in the day. Scanning a poster visually is far easier than scrolling across a map.

I like them, they show that the devs have put thought into the importance of the world map and it makes me feel more involved in the world if I have an actual map of it in my hands

I've got my Fallout 3, Oblivion and Shivering Isles maps on my wall right now... Oblivion/ Shivering Isles because I like the way they're drawn and the Fallout one because it's damn useful, (all locations on map, including non-registering ones on the in-game map) and I have no place to pull it out while gaming.

And my anime-themed body pillow is hiding under my bed.

The one from RDR is useful, because it shows you where the various animal species have their territories for when you're completing the Hunter challenges. The map that came with my GotY edition of Morrowind was useful as well, but that disappeared years ago. Other than that I don't use game maps, no real point when the pause screen/menu has a map tab.

Morrowind was the only game map I ever had up on my wall. Was just to the side of my moniter at eye level so I could easily follow it. Other then that I've never really bothered as the only game I've ever really had difficulty re: navigation was GTA IV

I think GTA started it, then it just became the norm. I like them a lot, but don't hang them up. Haven't quite reached that stage yet.
Ultima IX came with a map, and I believe other Ultima games before it as well.

Surely anyone with John Major as their avatar should have posters of Edwina Currie.

Morrowind came with one, which I put up on my wall for a time in memoriam of all the time I sunk into the game. Odds are I could navigate my way around the world map with my eyes closed even now.
