I duno who has seen this sad, sad news, (most likely... all of you), and the news crew isn't up to cover this extremely important matter so...

SARDINES ARE NO LONGER BEING PACKED IN THE USA!

This SUCKS. I fucking love those things. I'm still working through a bulk purchase of about 40 tins I got from Costco, but they make awesome snacks. Eat it with a little toast and mustard, and you got lunch. It fed me for over 10 years, becoming a easy lunch when I was too lazy to cook.

And now, it seems its all over. At least in the USA. Hopefully we still import it, but it seems unlikely...

Whats your take on all this? Do you even like sardines? DO YOU THINK WE CAN STILL BUY THEM!

Yeah, I know it's about anchovis, but I couldn't resist, it's just too perfect.

I don't know about eating them directly from the tin, but they are a somewhat crucial ingredient in many tasty recipes.

I've never had them, but assuming this is true (I read it online and haven't tried to verify it, so why wouldn't it be true?), I'm going to buy a couple cans tomorrow and..eventually..see what they're all about.

Kippers & Anchovies too? :(

I read several years ago that many species of fish were becomeing fished-out & endangered. & recently I've heard that fishermen are trying to force Japan to stop catching Bluefin Tuna.

You will probably be able to get imported sardines (at twice the cost).

But there so good in salad...

I'm sure we'll still be able to import them from China, but we'll have to eat them carefully and pre-cook them to be safe...

Sardines? Mehh.... no big loss. Delmarco's (not sure if thats right) tinned mackeral with various salads FTW. (Dunno if you have them in america. They're small tins in boxes either red, yellow or blue).

Since I do enjoy most fish on toast anyway i guess i can sympathize with you <3

Hey I was going to post that... There I was thinking I was being all original... Yeah right.
You shot for 'original'... with that? On a forum bursting with nerds?
Consider yourself laughed at, my good sir. xD

The article said they already had to import sardines from the UK because they weren't allowed to catch enough fish by themselves.
Surely this will just mean you're still getting the UK sardines, no? Especially since they also had to compete against the very cheap Asian sardines.
You just won't get American sardines.

Egh, nothing changes for the European, and tuna is better anyway.

Never could stand the things. Slimy little fish packed in super disgusting oil? No thanks.

But I feel your pain about them not being produced anymore if you do like them. I can't seem to find Super Donuts anymore, and they were like heaven in doughnut form. Ironic, really, when you realize that I envision Heaven as a giant, warm Super Donut that we can all live in/eat on forever.

Well there is cool thing called globalization. They'll probably be shipped to the US from somewhere else.

You'll still be able to get them. Just not from the USA packeries.

I live in Australia and I have no trouble getting sardines if I want them. There's plenty of different brands on the shelf, too, some from Canada, some from Australia and other parts of Asia.

Besides, they're protecting the marine environment and stuff. Overfishing is bad, it means one day in the future we may have no fish at all. It's a good thing ultimately although I guess it does suck for people who've been working in sardines all their lives and know nothing else. Still, that's the way it goes with changing society and tastes I guess.

Since we are no longer packing Sardines in the US, people are losing jobs and we are losing even more profits. They may not be much of a profit for the States, but hey, its still a profit. And with the way our economy is now, losing those Sardine profits is a a big deal for me.
