There was so little to be invested in though? It was a concept with a handful of fancy trailers.

Sure it was an interesting concept, but it was so far from having an engaging "why do you want this" that I just can't understand anything more than mild disappointment.

I was looking forward to this, as anything (that's not shit) by Platinum is usually worth a look.

Though it looks like Microsoft thought it was wasn't good enough to release... I'll trust them on this one.

And, no, it's not like Silent Hills. That was a project where the company was doing everything that they could to remove the designer. No one's getting fired at Platinum (probably).

Xbox is bad. The fewer exclusives it has, the better.

Metal Gear Rising was lame. The Bayonetta demo was lame. I'm sure this would have been lame too. Platinum doesn't know what fun is.
And those of us who did have fun with them?

I thought it looked like crap.

Had some fucking hideous visual design going on.

I don't own an Xbone and don't intend to, but I wasn't even aware it was a Xbone exclusive.
It wasn't, just a Microsoft console exclusive.

Who knows maybe if they can wrestle the game free of Microsoft's shackles they can keep developing for PC and bonus, minus the Windows 10 store.

I just find it funny that at E3 2014, Microsoft announced:
Forza Horizon 2 - Released
Fable Legends - Cancelled
Project Spark - Cancelled
Ori and the Blind Forest - Released
Halo: MCC - Released, still has MAJOR issues
Inside - Released
Rise of the Tomb Raider - Released
Phantom Dust - Cancelled
Scalebound - Cancelled
Crackdown 3 - Not been seen since 2014

So of the 10 games that Microsoft announced, 4 wont ever see the light of day, and 1 has gone AWOL. And of the games that did get released, 2 are sequels, 2 are indie games, and 1 is a HD Remaster that Microsoft fucked up anyway. What a great turnout. Good job, guys.

Wow, when you look at it that is doubly sad, since I would only care for like 2 of these games anyways but the boring ones got released. Ori was good too but wasn't that mainly for pc?

You're a weird minority. They fail at pretty much everything. Controls, storytelling, camera, spectacle, music, combat... Pretty much everything. Metal Gear Rising was so average.
Eh, what? Camera, storytelling, I'll add art, character/encounter/level design...Platinum handles those poorly.
But combat, controls, Especially spectacle is what they're recognized for...it's practically their signature.

For Scalebound it probably comes down to several reasons and both are to blame. And probably would have tanked commercially anyway...the game was years in development and did not look go good. Pt is working on too many projects and it shows.

From everything I've heard, whatever Platinum showed of Scalebound was mostly vertical slices that didn't represent the entirety of the game, and my inference of such was that it wasn't anything to write home about. So it getting canned doesn't bother me as much and after the No Mans Sky hype-failure, I'd figure anyone should think twice about promoting a game before it's final release, or being pissed it was cancelled.
Platinum has had a few decent games, but a bunch of them are also crap.

And to think -

It's tough doing much of anything original - and perhaps also a touch ironic - when your business mantra has historically been to embrace, extend, and extinguish. I wouldn't want to see how bad the console industry would've gotten if they ever got big enough to make Sony how out. They've already done enough damage primarily spearheading things like buying off 3rd party exclusives, timed exclusives, online paid subscriptions and all the nickel and dime baggage that comes with, etc.

It's sad, but for those interested you shouldn't be too worried, Platinum and Kamiya-san will bounce back. What sucks that this was a passion project and Microsoft fucked up. Again At least they have Nier: A and are working another new project with Granblue Fantasy Project Re:Link: and Lost Order. The latter two they're collaborating with Cygames, so they'll be better with them than the likes of Activision or Microsuck. It will be a good while before their next original project, but I'll be waiting for them, and so will many others.

P.S - To the MS fanboys and naysayers (the ones acting like assholes and glad that the game was canned), odds are most of you weren't planning on getting the game to begin with. Just you know, your console really does have any worthwhile exclusives aside from KI. And KI I don't have interest anymore aside from the soundtrack. All you got are a couple of not so good shooters, a few indies available on other platforms, and what were exclusives were timed, average at best, or MIA. That is all.
