I love Dead Space as many other people and I am very excited for the next one.

Anyways, every time I hear someone speaking of Dead Space they always say "it was so scary" or something like that, but I felt it wasn't very scary at all really, so I really wonder how many people were honestly scared when playing Dead Space. But I have not really been scared when playing other horror games, but I still feel Dead Space was not very scary still.

For me it was the anticipation, the monsters were so weak and easy to kill it wasn't that bad but sometimes you're just not sure what lies next. When I got that epic armor from beating the game it wasn't so bad.

People say the scares were jumped based. They were right, to a point.

But the atmosphere was top notch. I was always on the look out. Turning every corner with my weapon drawn. That's fear, isn't it?

So, yeah. I was scared.

Scary in the same sense Doom 3 was scary.

Which is to say, just a horror-themed shooting gallery.

I only really started being scary when you were getting rushed by like 15 necromorphs on the higher difficulties, i mean once you realise that everything is like a 3 hit kill on easy/medium nothing will scare you...

Only the first and tenth chapter were remotely scary anyway, cuz those were the only ones that had any atmosphere

It was not scary unless you cranked up the difficulty. On easy I had loads of health and ammo. The atmosphere was amazing, but I had no reason to fear it.

Put it on hard? I never had ammo. It took a lot for things to die. And it didn't take much for -me- to die. It add a -lot- to the atmosphere when you are really fearing for Isaacs life entering every room.

It scared some people.

It didn't scare others.

Why? People are scared by different things. This should be obvious. It's irritating when people say 'DERP IT WAZENT SCARY COS IT WAS JUST JUMP SCARES'

There was more to it than that. And yes, I have played and finished Silent Hill 2 (twice), before I get the obligatory 'I'll show you a real scary game' reply.

the game was a thrillride. it had your heart pumping as you opened every door and took every turn. it had its jumpscares, but what's wrong with that? the atmosphere was brilliant. the game was new and amazing. who doesn't wanna sever alien limbs with plasma weapons?
It's like you read my mind. And then I wrote it in the next post. So actually it's more like I read your mind.

It was scary in the same sense that seeing a big, black spider scurry along the floor is scary.

"Aah, there it is! Geddit, geddit, geddit, geddit!"

It wasn't so much the creepy monsters that bothered me as the failing condition of the ship as it's orbit decayed and seeing that huge rock slamming through the floor of the flight deck that creeped me out. The atmosphere created a very real sense of anticipation, knowing if the monsters didn't kill me the broken ship likely would.

Oh snap, I heard candlejack makes an appearance in Dead Space 2. He's right behi-

EDIT: sorry OP, you can have the thread back now.
I don't care what people say on here honestly, I enjoy seeing humor being let out, but some people might want to see others opinions...

There were so many so called "scary moments", that I was pretty much desensitized before I even played it.
