Never heard of it in the UK. Is it similar to Buckfast?

A quick bit of "research" shows me that most fans of Schooner on Fbook have Irish names, lending credence to your theory that it's an Irish thing.

Like Taytos.

Mmm, Taytos.

Damnit! I wanted to be the first to mention Buckfast!

'NB The name 'tonic wine' does not imply medicinal properties' LOL

Would you believe it was first brewed by French monks... [sub][sub][sub][sub]the only good thing they gave the Brits![/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]

What about Bénédictine and Chartreuse? Or our overwhelming sense of supercilious superiority?

Touche!

I was just thinking of what Sue Perkins said regarding Buckfast:

Sandi Toksvig - Buckfast was first made by French monks who settled in Devon...
Sue Perkins (having had a liberal amount of the 'tonic wine' on air) - They weren't planning settling, they just couldn't get up!
