I apologize if this has been asked and answered before, as to my knowledge I've never seen it... Just curious if anybody knows if there are any Sci-Fi Action RPGs in existance? I loved Diablo 2 and Torchlight and games such as those but the only ones I've ever found were very fantasy flavored... Are there any games similar to these but with other genre themes?

Well there was a game called Too Human, but I wouldn't recommend it. It used norse myth with scifi elements.

Surely Mass Effect should have been mentioned within half a second of this being posted? It's Sci-fi, it has a heavy action focus and it is an RPG.

I was thinking more along the lines of diablo where the game is more loot driven, because of OP's examples. I don't think there is many, or any for that matter, scifi diablo clones.

Closest things I could think of are Spiral Knights and DarkSpore (and even those require you to use a very loose definition of both "ARPG" and "Sci-fi")

The only one I can think of is Space Siege. I only know that it's Sci-Fi/Space action RPG made by the same guys who made Dungeon Siege. I don't know if it's any good since I haven't played it, or even saw any reviews for it.

Yeah, Space Siege.

It got rather mediocre reviews overall when you take the average, but it appears to be another one of those "you love it or hate it" type games. Haven't played it myself, so I can't really comment, but it's basically a sci-fi Diablo by the description and gameplay I've seen. Though it's one of the few I can actually think of, and the only one that didn't have overwhelmingly negative reviews.

I kinda wish there were some more modern Sci-Fi RPGs, if I'm honest. The few we get seem to be from extremely small companies who don't have the resources (or ability) to polish and refine their games. Maybe CD Projekt's Cyberpunk will scratch that itch in two years...

Borderlands maybe?
Yeah this totally screams Borderlands. That (series of) game(s) has a heavy mechanical similarity to games in the Diablo vein, although it doesn't share their isometric aesthetic.

There's a few that I can think of that wasn't mentioned yet:
-Post Genesis Phantasy Star games
-Restricted Area
-The Newer Fallout games

Here's some games that's might be considered as well:
-Star Ocean games
-Marvel Ultimate Alliance
-Nier

Mass Effect.

... yeah, I think that's about it.

Mass Effect 1 is VERY loot driven. Like, every mission leaves you with a pile of loot to sell off - and then you use the cash to try to find better equipment. Yeah, there's an epic plot, but the loot is a pretty major part of ME1.

Nier is more of a fantasy games with some sci-fi background. The game itself, however, is pretty much 100% fantasy hack-and-slash. Great game, but not really sci-fi except some of the very distant backstory.

Phantasy Star Online. Either wait for PSO2, or if you have a PSP there's Phantasy Star Portable 1 and 2.

Mass effect is not loot driven. Sure, you find lots of loot but thats not the point of the game like Diablo is.

Harbinger was a sci-fi game that was very much like Diablo and pretty fun to play. There's also Marvel Heroes if you're into that sort of thing.

True, but the background is the reason as to why it's in my list.

For the OP

While not sci-fi (it has a modern setting), the Parasite Eve games.

Star Ocean, depending on which game you get you may spend a lot of time on fantasy planets but it never lost the sci-fi flavor to me. Or Zone of the Enders, which is way more sci-fi.
