So several years ago, I believe it was between 2000 to 2004 or so, I remember playing a text-based browser RPG and I can't remember what it was called or even if it still is around. I am almost positive that it's not around any longer but I'd thought that I post it to you guys to see if any of you have played this game, remembered it, and possibly could tell me what happened to it (or at the least, what it was called!).
So in this game, a fantasy based RPG, you create a character with a class. The game is mostly text-based in that the graphics aren't impressive by any means and that the character makes choices from drop-down menus or HTML links. The game was free and had no pay-to-play/win elements, it's simply based in time spent in the game.
The game has two major modes that a player can play in, one is a dungeon crawler where your character moves left, right, back, forward, up, down, etc. then encounters choices, enemies, puzzles, or other NPCs. The player would advance a story and move along to gain experience and better loot, again, all text based.
The other mode was an arena mode in which your character would join a lobby and can challenge or be challenged by other players for in-game money and experience. In this mode, your character and your opponent would be in a one-on-one duel in which you have about a minute to make your move to which your opponent does the same. You could move up to melee, out of melee, use an attack, cast a spell, use an ability, or any sort of thing that was an option for your character. The screen refreshes each minute or so (remember, 2000...) and the announcer would tell you what your characters did and what happened as a result. After your character won or was beaten, you get certain money to which you could go and buy equipment and new abilities for your class. The equipment and abilities can be used in either the single player or the arena modes.
I know that this may sound fairly generic, but I suppose that I'm trying to see (at the least) what this game was called and if/when it died. Also, if there are similar text-based games that aren't forum based, let me know!
Thanks!
