So after a year of believing this would be the last season (even having the last episode of season 5 be titled "The End"), ABC has ordered a 6th season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that will be 13 episodes (instead of the 22 each season has been so far) and will air in "summer 2019".

This makes sense. Given the events of Infinity War it would work better for the series to pick up after Avengers 4 wraps up that plot. It's nice that the season ended in a way that would have been a satisfactory ending to the series, but it still has places it can go. With 13 episodes, I think they'll be going into a more tightly written season then what we've had so far. Season 4 was three 8 episode arcs that led into one another, and season 5 was an 8 episode arc that led into a 14 episode wrap up story that tied up all open plot threads.

13 episodes could mean it'll be the last season, but it could also be limitations due to the series airing in summer rather then fall-winter-spring. We'll have to wait and see how things play out, I'm hoping it's a result of airing in summer and 2020's season returns to the 22 episode formula, since the series is as close to a live action comic book we have right now, but being a realist I'm also aware it's amazing we even got a 6th season at all.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. dealing with the aftermath of the end to Infinity War could have been fun too, to see the panic and chaos caused by it between it getting resolved in the next Avengers movie.

Man, I'm bummed I've only had free access to the first two seasons. I actually like a lot of Whedon's stuff (Buffy, Angel, Firefly, S.H.I.EL.D.... Dollhouse was a little meh), but he's such an obnoxious prick that I just don't feel right about giving money to him. I'll watch the Avengers films once they're free on muh TV. The first two already were.

I doubt it, because its not like they'll just kill off half the cast for an entire season. All the little subplots would grind to a hault, and it'd just be the same 4 dudes not being able to do anything until Captain and Iron Man fix the universe.
Because we don't know what the metric is for the gauntlet killing folks, its entirely possible the entire Agents of Shield cast could get killed off, and then its just an entire season of empty rooms with.
which now that I think of it would at least be notable for its daring.

I don't think Whedon has anything to do with the MCU outside of the SHIELD show and as of Avengers 2, so watch without guilt.

While Joss Whedon did make the pilot, the show is the work of his brother and sister-in-law, and he's had no involvement since the pilot.

Good news for you is that with season 5 they've reached 110 episodes, so there's probably a station that'll pick it up for syndication. Just remember that starting at the Uprising arc in season 1 is becomes continuity heavy, with every episode leading into the next. Though on the bright side it's on Netflix in the US so that should help.

Another thing to remember is that we don't know what the time gap between the two Avengers movies is. It could be a year, it could be back-to-back, we won't know until the movie comes out. All we know at the moment is that all projects coming out between now and then are set before the events of Infinity War.

Im about half way through the most recent season, but I am really not digging it.

I don't know what it is. Maybe it is the whole space thing. Maybe it is the fact that the whole purpose of the season is to prevent something, that wouldn't realistically happen in the MCU - making it irrelevant. Maybe it is the fact that it is so disconnected from the established universe. Maybe it is the fact that I just don't feel threatened by the Kree.

I dunno, its just not doing it for me.

I enjoyed it, was more the destination rather then the journey in my mind. Sure, you know they're going to fix it, but the question is how.

IMDB does list him as producer though.

But.....they got rid of the best characters?

I mean good luck. Maybe they'll retrieve fitz only to have Simmons disappear with the fingersnap.

Gotta milk that drama

Honestly fitzsimmons should have just left shield years ago
I think the reason the show's coming back after Avengers 4 is because they want to avoid that issue.
