Now, most of you are probably heard about the new Sonic the Hedgehog game codenamed Project Needlemouse. It promises to bring back the 2D aspect to the series that made it famous in the first place. (video: http://www.sega.com/games/project-needlemouse/)

But, there's nothing published about the actual gameplay or story so there's no guarantee of how good it will be but here goes:

How do you think Sega might screw up the new sonic game? (I'm not trying to say it will definitely suck but let's be pessimistic).

In the original game on the three-button controllers were all the same, and the games never really deviated from that. But in modern times we have games which require more than three buttons leading me to believe that Sega might try to put too many actions into the game making it needlessly complicated and ending up a very shoddy project.

Another thing about the games is they tend to add an insufferable amount of new characters into each installment with new powers and abilities that tend to come off as stupid, gimmicky crap. Oh sure, the original sonic trilogy (and Sonic & Knuckles) got away with it because the roster wasn't too large, it was simple an there weren't too many characters to make things needlessly weird and unexplained.

Which leads me to the story aspect. In the first couple of games we just went with whatever was happening but now everything has to be explained in full detail to the point where it's just straight up stupid.

When combined this formula adds up to a terrible game, making the players feel alienated and frustrated. But, sega does seem to listen to the criticisms of the people (i. e. Going back to the 2D roots), so there is some hope. For now though, I think we should be wary of the next game.

How do you think "Project Needlemouse" will be ruined?

I'm worried you won't get to go fast enough, or be going too fast, and make it as difficult to control as the 3d cousins.
