Hey guys. Its almost Christmas again and I still don't know exactly what to ask.

Last year I received the dvd box of Rome, A show that I watched when I was a lot younger. Anyway I really liked the series and I wonder if there's anything out there thats somewhat like it.

So does someone here know another good, reasonably accurate Historical drama series? It doesn't have to be in the roman times, any time period that isn't too modern will do.

I already watched I, Claudius, but other then that I haven't watched much
Alright thanks in advance.

Spartacus, Borgias and Game of Thrones are the only ones I can think of that are "similar".

I'd give the Tudors a good look, it's guilty of some artistic license but stays mostly historically accurate and should be enough to keep you interested.

I, Claudius is a bit of an older show from BBC but man did it ever have some solid writing, plus it has a young Patrick Stewart and John Hurt in it.

The Borgias is right up your alley.

Even though the writing is hilarious and then some.

But hey, Jeremy Irons. That man should be reason enough to watch it.

Well that or Game of Thrones. Can't get more medieval than that.

Deadwood. It's not similar in history at all. But Rome and Deadwood are by far the highest quality HBO historical dramas.

John Adams was a really good series as well. Paul Giamatti nailed the role.

I'll throw out Pillars of the Earth (haven't seen the whole series, but liked what I saw), the Borgias (not bad, but not their best), and just about anything by HBO, but I will give a massive "you need to fucking watch this if you haven't already" to Deadwood. Seriously. You need to fucking watch this if you haven't already. And if you have, fucking watch it again.

Rome is my favourite tv show ever, currently half way through my annual veiwing!
As with many others I heartily recommend Game of Thrones and the Borgias. Borgias isn't as good but it's worth watching just for Jeremy Irons' performance, it's funny watching him out act the fuck out of everyone else in his scenes.
Also Deadwood. If you like cussin' and fuckin' you'll love Deadwood!
If you dig Deadwood give Hell on Wheels a go, it's so good.

EDIT: Ooo also Boardwalk Empire! HBO show about prohibition. Season 2 was pretty meh but they more than made up for it in season 3. It's basically Rome but in 20's America and has Steve Buscemi. And lets be honest, who doesn't like Steve Buscemi?

I'll Second this one it is a really interesting look at the Rev war from the political perspective, especially interesting is all the politicking around the Dec of Independence.

Spartacus.
No.

I loved Rome to bits, but Spartacus was a heap of mumping cack, as Titus Pullo would say.
Aww come on it isnt that bad they should have defiantly stuck to practical effects because the CGI is really bad, but overall it isnt hat bad of a show.

Forgive my necroposting.

Ahem anyway the christmas gift I received wasn't the borgias, but Borgia: Faith and Fear another series about the Borgias which was made around the same time.
I watched the first episode today and so far its pretty good.

One little flaw is that the actor playing Rodrigo is great at looking like a cardinal, but so far hasn't been that great at acting like one. Still this is just the first episode so he'll probably get better later.
The rest of the actors where pretty good too, John Bradley (Samwell from games of thrones) is in it as well.
