Don't mind me, saw this on Rock, Paper, Shotgun and thought I'd spread the word. It's a funny and poignant look at sex in video games and the need to portray more meaningful intimacy in games.

It's worth every minute.

Top notch stuff, I was a little wary at first of him being a Yahtzee impersonator but he does it with so much charm and insight that it doesn't matter in the slighttest. Loved it.

funny video.

But I dont think sex is what is holding video games back.

For example porn in the film industries is certainly not advancing lighting, characterisation and camera techniques lol.

I think the author just wants more sex games and tried to explain it intellectually, but it fails.

I completely disagree. The point he's making is that mature use of sexuality is one of the distinguishing features of art in all it's forms. He's also arguing that the immature sexual representations that we have in most games are holding us back somewhat in terms of artistic integrity.

Whilst it's not the only element that needs improved upon in games, he's right. Until we can handle sex in a mature manner that isn't just adolescent pandering then we're unlikely to develop as an art form.

Exactly right. One of the more important points, I think, is that until our medium can include sex (and the intimacy and relationships that go with it!) in a meaningful way, people aren't going to take Gaming seriously. Sexual content is not inherently pornographic. An astounding number of people need to learn that.

The solution is honestly very simple, but for game developers it's an impossible task at the rate they're going. Games need to stop being produced with blatant cleavage, skimpy outfits and pointless easter eggs meant solely as a fan service to those who have no intention of seeking out a real girl in the real world.

Sex is not something that should be censored to the point that it's not allowed to show it's pretty face out in the open, while I understand we have to censor it to a point so that mindless little children with irresponsible parents cannot get their hands on these kinds of games. But honestly, I and I'm sure millions and millions of other people in this "immature world" are sick and tired of people (overzealous parents and the government) treating the video game industry like it's their slave and censoring games left and right.

Honestly, sex is a natural thing, it should be allowed to be portrayed in its natural state. If game developers can produce a natural kind of sexual content and avoid the "little too graphic" kind of sexual content and the cheap shots of breasts every other full body shot...there might be games out there that tell the full story of a developing relationship the way it's supposed to be told, not the typical "boy meets girl, boy talks to girl--SEX!!!"

Careful...That's getting close to misandry. There are equally shallow women out there as well.

He has another one on plots in games. It's a lot of the basic facts that are common knowledge but he included my new favorite internet image.

IT PRINTS MONEY!!!

Sex in video games seems a bit one sided (in my experience), im a girl gamer and I see very few guys in the same position the women characters are placed (Tomb Raider anyone)guys that are usually as scantly clad as the girls tend to be offensively gay and other guy charters tend to bleed testosterone (except of Riden in MGS, i am still laughing about that). Gaming as a whole need so be mature enough to address sexuality equally and in a adult manner not just pandering to a demographic.

That was entertaining, but irritatingly for me, had the exact same premise as an article I was writing.

Post it anyway.
I'm just waiting for the escapist to reject the proposal I sent them about it, then I probably will.

His article about plots in games uses the exact same quotes and makes a lot of the same points I did in another piece. Alas, the artsy writer types are starting to show up in droves to this little town.
