So the new shaow of mordor game has been leaked by target. Shadow of war. Linky http://kotaku.com/target-leaks-shadow-of-mordor-sequel-shadow-of-war-1792760792

There are a few details floating about. The story is about forging a new ring. You can now have followers and take over strongholds. They mention the nemesis system of coarse. They also have a nice over priced edition with more content.

So what do people think? I rather liked the nemesis system of the first game except for the fact the gameplay was totally not supportive of the system. It's about building up individuals to fight, but the combat is all about stealth and fighting groups. It's the kind of system that would be a lot better in a game like dark souls or any game outside of the batman AA clones.

First game was technically impressive and it had solid gameplay mechanics that were well constructed. Yet I found it incredibly dull. I never even got around to visiting the second area of the game because I got bored so quickly. Orks and uruks just weren't that much fun to kill and the world felt empty and depressing. I just didn't want to spend time there. I don't actually have a problem with gameplay. It's R rated Batman basically.

My problem is with the entire setting. The world is just dull and so are the enemies. It is a repetitive game that doesn't have much to offer aside from killing orks and uruks. And some might argue that Batman games are repetitive. However, unlike Shadow of Mordor, I enjoy being Batman and beating up people in Gotham so I don't mind that aspect of Arkham games. I just don't care about the protagonist in SoM and I don't care about killing orks and uruks. It does nothing for me.

I liked the first game but agree with others that it would have benefited from a little more variety and flavor. The nemesis system is cool in theory, but I never really used it because by the time they introduced the cool stuff like sleeper agents I was so strong I didn't need/want to bother with any of it when it was easier to just wade into a camp and slaughter the orcs myself. I'm a big LOTR nerd and Monolith has the toolkit to make a really great game so I'm pretty excited for a sequel.

The first game had the fortune of being released at a time there weren't many new-gen games out yet but on it's own it's a solid yet highly repetitive game. Having to tear through mobs of those green fucks over and over got really tedious after a while. This was somewhat mitigated by the nemesis system which really gave a sense of character to an otherwise bland game.

I enjoyed it for what it was but if the sequel is just the same thing but in a different setting it'll get a pass from me. Espescially since I'm somewhat bored with the Arkham combat. It was accessible and fun in the Batman games but the system itself feels too much like a rythm game for my tastes.

The standout of SoM was the Nemesis mechanic. I'd really like to see that fleshed out more, and was really hoping more game devs could latch onto the idea and run with it... but so far not a whole lot has come from it, which saddens me.

Add another to the "cautiously optimistic if they give the game more variety to work with"

I enjoyed the first one greatly but it got repetitive about halfway through. At the time, I didn't really have much else to play so it kind of got the benefit of being one of my first Xbox One games and I saw it through all the way. The second game will not get that benefit as I've now got an overabundance of games to play.

I am disappointed we haven't seen much of it too. It's not that hard of a system and SoM didn't even use it all that well. Imagine the system in a game like dark souls, or armored core. Something where are are a lot more dials and switches you can flip to make enemies different.

Huh.

Despite enjoying the first game (it was basically the best Assassin's Creed game ever made) I find myself utterly nonplussed at the idea of a sequel.

Really was a great idea that put in a better game, and properly modified/developed, could really make a game's AI seem more reactive. I imagine Dark Souls + Nemesis would be hell on players, having small bands of mobs led by a "captain" mob that every time you reset at a bonfire "remembers" your tactics from before and adjusts accordingly. Oh my... yes, git gud would take on a whole new meaning.

I actually finished Shadow of Mordor 2 days ago and thought it was excellent, so I am excited for a sequel, but I also have some concerns.

First I'll agree with most everyone here that it did need some more variety in setting, encounters, and enemies. Also I liked the Nemesis thing but either Talion is too overpowered or I am too familiar with the Arkham combat because I rarely died at all so it didn't come into play very much for me.

And storywise, not that SoM had a compelling story or anything but I still pay attention to this sort of thing, there's hardly anywhere to go. All they can do is more of the same in that aspect.

So, optimistic, as long as they address the obvious flaws.

Expand on the Nemesis System, have boss fights that don't SUCK, have more interesting areas and a more engaging story and bang, we've got GOTY material.

Yay! Terrible name...but still, yay! I (like many I bet) hope they focus on making the mind control stuff way bigger. Also have it from the start. You beat half the game before you get the power.

Yeah its a shame the nemesis system never really got replicated in other game so I'm pretty excited for this. Honestly I never liked the arkham fighting system so the game was actually kind of boring for me, but the nemesis system lead to so much interesting stuff that I finished it.

There's so much room to expand it though and I think the dev know what they're doing.

Didn't give a rat ass about the story, so they can feel free to axe that entirely.

I just got the GOTY edition like two days ago, started playing today and the sequel is confirmed. Lucky me

I have to say, the stealth combat is so god damn satisfying. I dunno why, I just like being Batman where I shank the guy in the neck

Must admit I'm intrigued to see how this turns out. Riding the wargs were one of my favourite things to do.
Call me petty, but I'd really like to see a proper female playable character this time and not just as a cosmetic skin.
