I took a chance recently and got myself a copy of Shadows of the Damned on Ebay (couldn't find it anywhere locally, sounds like not enough people bought it for it to turn up used with any regularity) and I could not love it more.

Has anyone else here played this, and if so, what did you think?

I bought it for 15 euro at my gamestop a few weeks back and haven't found much time to play it (exams) but what is it like? is it like Suda51's other games in terms of humor?
Eh, it is one of his more restrained games. I chuckled a few times.
OP: I played it for a few hours. It was okay. My favorite part was the Evil Dead shout out.

Liked it quite a bit.

Some of the bosses were a bit annoying, but no more-so than most games.

The constant banter with Johnson and Garcia kept be chuckling the whole way, though.

Rented it and i guess i`m buying when i find a cheap copy. I thougt it was great and fun, there are just so many other games waiting to be played. I hated the chases, it was a bit to much dying by trial and error for my taste (the screaming did do it`s work, brrrrr)

I loved MOST of it. The side scrolling bits sucked >.<

But still an overall fantastic, funny game that had some really original aesthetics and was generally fun. I really hope to see a sequel. Also the fact that The Damned did the ending song just adds to the awesome!

Final bit: you can move AND shoot! FINALLY!

I liked it, was great (except for the bloody side scroller bits).

Just wish it was a bit more polished and had some more original enemies. (Your telling me hell is only filled with zombies? LIES!"

Pretty fun game, enjoyed it a lot. Although I got the feeling that there was some corner cutting involved during development (case in point: one of the bosses being in the side-scrolling section. And the game overall being a bit on the shorter side).
Also it wasn't quite as crazy as I would have expected from a game with Goichi Sudo involved. Actually it felt like a rather conventional game, only with a huge amount of sexual innuendo thrown in.

My favorite part was the Evil Dead shout out.
Yeah, I loved that bit as well.

Isn't it a collaboration rather than a Suda51 game though?Maybe Shinji Mikami had a slightly calming influence on the normally bonkers Suda

Yahtzee gave a pretty good assessment of it: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/3675-Shadows-of-the-Damned

I played it and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's definitely a fun game to pick up for cheap/rental in the sense that it isn't very long and doesn't have a great deal of replay value. It does have Suda's demented humor although it is scaled back a bit, and the game action is fun, albeit somewhat easy considering it's basically RE4/5 except with the ability to move. The side scrolling parts aren't that bad, and actually do help keep the game from getting monotonous.

Overall I highly recommend it. I'd give it a B+.

I actually really liked the game. A little pissed that there was no game+ mode. Characters were likable, got a few chuckles at the dick jokes and the nice shout outs.
Felt a little short though. 100%'d it over a week or so, still couldn't complain too much. Enemies were a little bland and could have used a bit of a polish before release but I've certainly played worse.
...But one thing I will always hate: JUSTINE Y U SIDESCROLL SECTION?

This was a though-ass sell for me, and a weird story.

I went to GAME to buy "Alice: Madness Returns", and I had enough money to pick up another game. The guy behind the counter was quite insistent on "Shadows of the Damned", despite me telling him that I wasn't a fan of "Bayonetta" (which he kept comparing it to).

After literaly an hour, I went out to check reviews online and decided to take a gamble. I told him if I bought the game on the condition I could go back to the store the next day to trade it for another if I didn't like it.

And return I did, but to thank him for the suggestion and persistence. It was one of my favourite games from last year.
