FROM (no pun) a recent VaatiVidya feature... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tYE7ZElg-s]

...Goodbye RPG-like stat leveling, hello more organic, skill-based gameplay progression?

If so then that's the best news I've heard about it to-date. Let's just hope Activision doesn't spoil anything regarding its design or content. There is one detail towards the end that surprised me though, especially considering the history of the publisher involved.
It's a cut feature.

Some more intriguing insight from TerraMantis [http://youtu.be/gce0lEl4BgY?a]

It's exactly what I thought when watching the trailer that this was going to be a straight-up character action game. About time From dropped the pretension of all the RPG elements that they really weren't good at anyway. Just like VaatiVidya said, enemies having different levels in Souls is really pointless; as you level up to increase health and DPS, enemies increase with more HP and DPS themselves making them equally as hard as the previous enemies thus changing the game in no way and making the RPG elements basically pointless. Bloodborne was them wanting to do it [focusing on a singular playstyle] while still being beholden to the base structure of Souls. The combat just from that video sounds like it'll have so much more depth and skill to it as Souls combat is really just dodge/block then hit with stick or using some shitty magic mechanics (lock-on and press square) for a spell. And Souls' stamina adds no depth either, it just functions as a DPS-limiter and nothing else, you never had to actually manage your stamina. The "posture" system as explained in the video is a mechanic that will solely give combat far more depth. And, you're going to get more skills as you play so combat actually evolves over time vs staying exactly the same from start to finish. Not to mention the grappling hook and JUMPING adding in more options and moves.

In short, I'm super interested in a From title finally.

This game having a set character I don't mind that they dropped the RPG elements but I definitely liked them in Bloodborne and Souls. It allowed for a light customization of your character without feeling too obtrusive(not really a fan of hardcore RPGs) just as the stamina management added a layer of strategic depth that really gave the games their signature style compared to other action games like God of War or Devil May Cry. Infact, when I first played Demon's Souls I tried to play it just like DmC but then discovered this is a completely different game altogether. :p

Not as hyped for Sekiro as I was for Bloodborne but I have no doubt it's still going to be an amazing game. Like Miyazaki said in the interview that focus of the game is now on breaking enemy posture instead of nibbing away at the enemy's health bar sounds really cool too. That and having a grappling hook with emphasis on verticality and with stealth and observation as an alternative offensive approach would give combat more venues and a different flow. Espescially with the 'die twice' mechanic now even dying having gameplay importance. I also can't wait to see Miyazaki's take on ninjas and the like.

They could have just made another one of their 'traditional' action-RPGs and I would have been more than happy(Bloodborne and DkS3 are probably my most favorite games of all time) but Sekiro being more of a dedicated action game with different systems definitely gives it an innovation the Souls games no longer really had. Was kind of underwhelmed by the trailer but the different interviews restored a lot of my faith. This definitely is one of the best developers that understands like no other what makes games fun.

The only things I really want to know is if they still have i-frame when dodging. I'd be surprised if they removed it but since its more action they might have done that.

I know, I'd personally prefer them being replaced with a more physically accurate damage/evade system this time around, but wouldn't be surprised if they're still in there.
