The song "She's Always a Woman" by Billy Joel has always disturbed me. I mean, I really can't tell who's creepier: Billy Joel having the hots for a shadowmancing, psychokinetic child, or the girl/woman/thing he's got the hots for.

She can kill with a smile
She can wound with her eyes
She can ruin your faith with her casual lies
And she only reveals what she wants you to see
She hides like a child,
But she's always a woman to me

She can lead you to love
She can take you or leave you
She can ask for the truth
But she'll never believe you
And she'll take what you give her, as long as it's free
Yeah, she steals like a thief
But she's always a woman to me

CHORUS:
Oh--she takes care of herself
She can wait if she wants
She's ahead of her time
Oh--and she never gives out
And she never gives in
She just changes her mind

And she'll promise you more
Than the Garden of Eden
Then she'll carelessly cut you
And laugh while you're bleedin'
But she'll bring out the best
And the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself
Cause she's always a woman to me
--Mhmm--

Bridge

CHORUS:
Oh--she takes care of herself
She can wait if she wants
She's ahead of her time
Oh--and she never gives out
And she never gives in
She just changes her mind

She is frequently kind
And she's suddenly cruel
She can do as she pleases
She's nobody's fool
And she can't be convicted
She's earned her degree
And the most she will do
Is throw shadows at you
But she's always a woman to me

And you know what?

So: Does anyone else find this song as disturbing as I do? 'Cause I really never, EVER want to run into this girl/woman/thing in a dark alley. Or... Anywhere else really. She's SCARY.

EDIT: Though come to think of it, she might be a good base for a D&D or Shadowrun character... Ooh, Street Mage with wrist spurs, and boosted reflexes (Wet ware. The hardware stuff's more effective but you don't want it interferin' wit' yer magikken now do ya?)

The song does sort of make her sound like a cold-hearted self-centered *****, doesn't it? Definitely not my type.

Still a good song though.

Isn't that the strangest thing...When I first heard it, I was the only one in my family who flagged it as unnerving.

...Of course, I was also disturbed by Twilight Princess's wolf sections...maybe it's just a taste thing.

EDIT: But if you want a really creepy song, I'd recommend 'Captain Jack' or 'The Stranger'. (Of course, that was the point when he did those)

I can't listen to it without images of a psychotic girl with razors and shadow-magic (and kleptomania. And a lot of things), wandering around and killing people while BJ is singing about how amazing she is and it's not her fault she's doing these things, it's all your fault, she's JUST A WOMAN.

I know that's not what it's about, but I can't get that out of my head. It actually gives me nightmares if I listen to it before bed.

I can't listen to the song because I'm typing this in a juice bar/internet cafe on campus and don't have any earphones with me. However, I read through the lyrics and was reminded bizzarely of Alma in F.E.A.R. Or just half the characters I include in my short stories (considering that one of my female stock characters is a psycho who was sexually abused by her uncle, one is a crazy lesbian who seems to enjoy murder just for the hell of it, and another is an incestuous crazy chick with a penchant for cutting people's throats. And don't get me started on the guys...) It takes a hell of a lot to creep me out, as you can probably tell. I'll have to listen to this later though, when I get a chance :D

lol, that's kind of awesome. I'm assuming you write more towards the horror end of things?

To a certain extent, yes. Half my stories are more horror than anything else, and I'm in the middle of a series of twisted fairy tale adaptations right now. The others? My earlier works were meant to represent the darkness inherent in every human (by Offler that sounds emo...), so I ended up creating a bunch of stock characters I usually use who all had something wrong with them mentally. The most obvious one being the first character I spoke about in my earlier post...

Nice song, a bit creepy but i still rank "Still Alive" my personal most disturbing song ever. Right next to The Darkness soundtrack.
