I highly recommend if you played the total war series up till now, but you need some kind of legendary computer to play it on.

Very good, immersive and a good difficulty curve. Suggest starting as the Shimazu Clan because the Chosokabe Clan is way too easy and doesn't give you much of a challenge whereas the Shimazu campaign makes you learn about how to make your kingdom self sufficient through sea trade, rather than having to skip lots of turns to afford the next building type, urgh.

Battles are good, but after a few hours, you can use the same tactic that is; to have troops hold in place, and move one or two units behind to force the enemy to rout. But at least Cavalry has been knocked down a peg from Medieval total war, where you could just charge at the enemy and win 9/10 times with morale shock on impact.

I like Shogun 2, but it's definitely not my favorite Total War game. I'm really hoping that a worthy Rome Total War sequel is in the makes right now though.

As a Total War fan, I do enjoy this game, but all the factions do feel similar. This makes sense in context, but at the same time, I liked the variety I felt in Rome and Medieval 2 between the various factions.

My only grief with it is having to unlock various troops online. my samurais are getting killed all the time by monks with matchlocks. That or I get teamed with a player who only only has basic ashigaru troops and cavalry.

But yes I also highly recommend it as a massive improvement compared to Empire and Napoleon.

I've only played online a few times, and each time I've been up against an opponent at least 6 levels higher then me, with access to much better troops.

Shogun 2 was sort of a let down for me. I mean don't get me wrong, it is a great game, much better than Empire or Napoleon. But even with the settings on hard, most of my battles were just CTRL+A attack --> that way. /win

It didn't feel at all difficult, I laid waste to japan with little effort. Conquering all of my neighboring clans with a single army. Sure I got shunned because my general was all arrogant and stuff, but he was a badass...

Anyway, I didn't have to use any tactics to win, I was disappointed. Being awesome got me so distracted I lost the campaign though...I had 1 turn to take Kyoto. ...Kyoto was hard. <.<

That was on release though...I'm not sure if it's been patched since...I don't even pay any attention to it now.

I've always loved the Total War series, but there are a couple of things in the last two games that have really bugged me.

The restrictions on buildings, the lack of a cheat console - Oh come on, you have to admit that it was a fun option to have - the strange agent recruiting system in empire and the limited one in Shogun, etc.

Call me old fashioned, but I'm going to keep playing Medieval 2 and Rome, thank you very muchly. Besides, there's a particular Song of Ice and Fire mod that I'm looking forward to trying out...

I truly love the animations, it's amazing to have 2000 warriors all fighting in extreme detail, with bajillions of death animations and intense sword fighting.
Yeah, I am having a ton of fun with this game.
