Should I buy a 360 off of Ebay?

Seeing that I have no next-gen console as of yet, and I've decided that upgrading my PC is too much of a bother, I have decided that I should perhaps buy a Xbox 360. Now, in my local games retailer, a preowned 360 costs $250 (AUS), and a new one costs $400. However, jumping onto Ebay, I saw that some people are giving absolutely great bargains on Xbox 360s with games, with the costs being less of that in my local retailer or that I would get more value for my money. I am a minor, but my father has used and traded using Ebay before (basically everything in his "gym" is from Ebay), and I think that he will allow me to make a transaction. However, I wish to avoid being forced to fork out for a repair job or being forced to accuse someone else of misadvertising the product. Should I buy a 360 off of Ebay?

I'm going with "non", unless you can make sure it's a falcon or better chipset and think you can get warranty on it.

With a 33 percent failure rate, I would be wary of buying 360s off of Ebay.

That's pretty much all I can say about this one. Normally I would say definitely, but I don't know. If it's a fraction of the price then maybe it's worth the risk, but insure that bad boy as soon as you get it (no warranty from microsoft though, so if that breaks don't bother calling them).

I would try to avoid buying a second hand Xbox from anywhere. If you have the patience, wait and purchase a new one as you have at least some chance of getting a refund/replacement/hot cross bun. I don't trust the new ones that much but at least they (appear) to be more reliable.

On my fifth NEW xbox.

So no, don't do it friend!
Wouldn't it be opposite? I mean you're on your fifth. It's obviously they don't last. So why would he buy a full-price Xbox, just for it to fall apart in a matter of months?
Wouldn't it be cleverer to buy it cheap, and have it a month or two less, but still not paying as much?

But I must say no. I wouldn't chances are you're going to have a bad deal. For all you know, this may allready be broken, or will break within a week or so. I'd say try and buy the used one off the retailers ...

Friend of mine got an XBOX 360 for her 8 year old from eBay for Christmas.

Guess what it did straight out of the box..?

Got £400 rebate from PayPal, though...

No, no, no, read my lips NO! Bad idea, bad move. Get one locally that you can try out before you buy it, and still you will get no guarantee that it will work past 30 days, but Ebay you will lose your money, have to fight paypal to get it back, and be stuck with someone else's RROD. Don't do it.

I would suggest offering your father to do some chores if he will help you buy one locally, and get the best one possible. My son earns spending money by his grades, he gets 20. for each A, 10 for each B, nothing for C's. If he gets a D we take 10 from him, if he gets an E we take 20 from him. If he gets all A's we buy him something he wants, but he has to do his 1 chore and keep his room looking semi-clean. We have bought him an expensive Skateboard, a new XBox and a gaming PC and a 32" flat screen monitor/TV so far because he stayed on the Honor Roll for a while, and he helped me with the dishes when my work was keeping me overtime. Parents will usually work with you if you work with them.

It seems like the failures on xboxes either run to no problems whatsoever, single failure, or massive repeat failures. I guess what I'd say is that I have a hard time separating the ideas of correlation and causation; could be anything from poor power cycling etiquette to poor local power conditioning, but the people with excessive repeat failures kind of worry me that there might be a reason. Anyway, single failures are certainly common enough to want a warranty, regardless of anything else.

Go buy a new Arcade system. They have the new Jasper chipsets, and you can buy a hard drive for $100 and essentially make it a Pro. You'll have a three-year warranty on the red rings too.

I sell these things all day long. And deal with the dead ones. Trust me; just buy new.

check for positive feedback. Anything lower than 95% is bad, and you really shouldnt buy. Beyond that, I would trust the majority of those people. I would advise that you messaged them for specific questions just to be safe though, such as if the warranty sticker is still intact.
