I have been debating about this for a long time, mostly becuase of money issues, but I am after all a gamer, and what good would a gamer be without more than just one next gen system?

I have a wii, and for it's great. I love it. I can't really be a gamer without loving nintendo, but I'm missing some of my other favorites.

Star Ocean being one of them.

And Star Ocean is coming out to Xbox.

Obviously I want more than just one game for the Xbox 360, but star ocean is one of my top priorities.

I believe in the near future I'm going to get one... but here's the question:

What should I be aware of other than red ring, and how high of a price am I looking at as far as memory goes? I'm a little conerned about this... considering there are Xbox's that are cheaper, but have less memory. But I also have a budget.

I would love some friendly gamer advice on such an important purchace. (of course I would love a PS3... but I do NOT have six hundred dollars in my pocket... so I'm going for something equally as good in my opinion.)

It really depends on what you like to play, and if the games you want to play are coming out for the Xbox 360 exclusively. Also, I believe they finally fixed the red ring issues in normal Xboxes. I'm not completely sure, but I am completely sure the Elite doesn't have that particular problem. The Elite is $250, comes with a controller, a mic, the largest hard drive, and two $20 games. The regular one is cheaper, but has a smaller hard drive. That's the only change. You can also just buy a larger hard drive when the opportunity presents itself if you are on a very strict budget.

Really? Wow, I must have bought it on sale or something. The Best Buy I went to had it for $250. I feel really lucky now.

Yes, Go for it.
Although,
I'd only get a 360 with a hard drive.

I'd only get a PS3 if I have a ps2 with a tonne of games.

I'd only get a Wii for my mum...

Never been much for Star Ocean but I might have two good reasons to look into this one. Both of those reasons are attached to that redheaded elf.

If you have a substantial amount of money, I'd vouch for it.
Just look out for bugs in the system.

Well let's see...

Prices will depend on what type of 360 you get (Arcade, Pro, and Elite). I would only get an arcade if you are desperately strapped for cash and won't be downloading anything. The pro is my recommendation, as getting an elite for double the HDD space and a HDMI cable isn't very appealing to me unless you have a wallet to challenge Bill Gates with.

Memory wise the 60GB HDD that comes with the pro has done me fine. It hasn't run out of space and unless you keep every demo you download, anything bigger than that seems like overkill. I have bought a 512MB Memory Unit since I go to friend's places a lot so I now don't need to take my HDD with me.

Don't go for a pre-owned Xbox as the new ones have hardware upgrades that I would consider essential. In my experience, the red ring of death is no problem for those with a 'new' Xbox.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
Hope this was of some help to you.

Whoo fanboy flypaper!

I would, but remember that you should buy the console for the features and games it offers.
Wanna watch Blu-Ray and get free 'net play? Buy a PS3 instead.
Want better games and to play Gears with me? Buy a 360.

Otherwise, stick with the good ol' PC or older consoles that have more games you might like.

EDIT: and honestly, I don't use my xbox's hard drive for anything, since I'm too cheap and lazy to get Microsoft points to pay for downloads

It all depends on what kinds of games you like. If you know you like the games on the 360, this guy has it right:
