I just got asked by my parents if I want to move to Australia.
My dad has a job opportunity there.
Is that a good idea?

I really don't know because as much as I'd love to move there, I'd be leaving my friends behind etc and one man stands in my way....

Michael Atkinson!

EDIT: Just to clarify, I live in Scotland just now so I'd probably explode from the temperature differential alone
Depends on where, Australia is fucking huge, some places arent worth going to while others are pretty sweet. Can you be a bit more specific?
Not at the moment as I was told all of 3 hours ish ago and its now 1 in the morning and my parents are in bed. So can't ask them atm

3. If you have a Scottish accent all the slappers will find you attractive.
I have a more English accent, will that work?
Yeah pretty much, they won't tell the difference.

It's funny but while every other country in the world thinks we have the sexiest accent, we tend to find any accent more attractive than ours from English to German to South African.

Edit: Heh my post count is 1337.
I never realised when I reached 1337. It was a sad moment for me that I missed it
I will never post again and cherish it forever...

...crap

I would say yes if it weren't for Micheal Atkinson; I need M rated games. Other than him it's a nice country though.

Do it. I've just spent circa 3 months there and loved every minute of it. My bank balance went through the floor due to copious amounts of excessive drinking but I don't regret a thing about it. And don't worry about the temperature, you get used to it. By the way what part of Aus. would you be going to?

You'd love it over here. Just depends where you're planning on moving. If it's somewhere in Manly (The residence of me!) that's good, if it's Canberra that's bad and so on.

I hate to sound like some kind of cork hat wearing, Tooheys drinking Queen lovin' patriot here but I can pride myself on the fact that we are a welcoming, caring people (Just don't look into something called the Cronulla riots...) in a sunburnt land of far horizons, sweeping plains, droughts, flooding rain and of course jewelled seas.

Yeah, sure, why not?

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot. Atkinson's turning that place into Ocieania. No, don't go.

Ah i see. Well Sydney and Melbourne are nice places. In any case, it will be a huge step and is a big decision to make - Australia is very different to Scotland.

As a NZer i feel obliged to tell you that its full of poisonous creatures and that all Aussies are descendants of convicts and retarded monkeys, but in reality its a nice country and you could do a lot worse.

maybe. If the whole videogame censorship thing is the only reason, then go for it. I mean, if worse comes to worst you could always order your uncensored left 4 dead from an american selling it on ebay.

Don't worry about the games problem anmd Michael Atkinson he will be gone in 5 years anyway, I live in Australia and I dont buy games here, PLAY-ASIA.com all the way baby. Half Price!!!

1. It depends which state, I am going to assume either New South Wales or Victoria as they are the 2 biggest states, in that case moving here isnt too bad and seeing it is for your dads job then he will most likely be moving to the city so the weather isnt too bad until you go inland. BTW 3 days ago it was 43 C, (thats 110 F for you americans) THATS FUCKIN HOT!
dont worry it only gets that hot maybe 2-3 days in a year
2.Chicks here love guys with accents, I have even put on a few different fake accents to get laid before, the favs seem to be Scottish, Irish and USA accents.
3. The people here are incredibly friendly (well most of them) just like Scotland is, I have been and the people are nice there too. You will make friends in no time!
4. People are saying there is alot of poisonous things here, that is true but only if you live near the Desert/Bush if you are living in the City (again I am assuming) then you will have no problems.
5. The thing that Akai Shizuku linked to, yes most of that is true, but the thing about the Earthworm is that they only live in 1 town in the entire country, in fact I had only heard about them a fe months ago myself, and I am damn sure I have never seen one
6. There is only a few countries in the world that you could visit but you might actually considering living there, AUSTRALIA IS ONE OF THEM. Like I mentioned Scotland is nice but I couldnt live there I would miss Australia too much.
7. We have alot of Backpackers from the UK and Ireland come here, and most of them dont want to leave, in fact most of the Temps that I work with a backapackers that have been here so long that they get jobs until their Visas run out, then make the regretful trip back home.
8. If you like sport, then you will love it here. It is one of biggest past times, and you look at our Medal Tallies at the Commonwealth and Olympic games, We came top ten in the medals in the Olympics and 1st in the Commonewealth games. We only have a population of 21mill and yet we still challenge countries for bragging rights that have 500 million people.
We are soon to become 1# at cricket, we are number 1 in Hockey womens and mens, Rugby League, and we are up there in Rugby Union, hell we are even in the top 20 now in Soccer aswell (16th I believe.

So if that doenst persuade you then I dont know what will.

Seriously though. It's heavily censored there. So say bye bye to many games you know and love.

Go. Seriously, importing games from NZ is viable and it's a great country.

Come on, that happened once.

Dammit, why did I click that link just before I plan to go to sleep? Jesus almighty those things are freaky!

OT: I'd say go. Then again, I've never been off Britain, and someplace new seems exciting.

Depends where. Some places are nicer than others. I heartily recommend Far North Queensland, Brisbane, or even Sydney, but I'd stay completely away from states like <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/97581-Atkinson-Dismisses-Game-Consultation-as-Unfair>South Australia, Western Australia and the two Territories (Northern Territory and ACT).

Also, keep out of the middle because it's the hottest, driest and emptiest part of the country.

That's just my opinion though, and I'm just a Queenslander.

Australia is awesome. This stigma about Australia having the deadliest wildlife and environment is bullshit, just don't go into the desert. It's hot and people live in caves. Seriously - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underground_living

People are really exaggerating the censorship - it's not like the firemen from Fahrenheit 451 come around and burn your house down for owning a copy. You can get most games easily and un-fouled by censorship.

Hope to hell your dad's job opportunity is in Brisbane.

If you're willing to suffer a little heat, then sure, go for it. Of course, I've always wanted to go to Scotland myself (probably not to live, though).
