Should I want to like FFXIII-2?

So I can't help but be really excited for FFXIII-2. I know that FFXIII was far from even close to relatively good, but the sequel looks like its making a return to more traditional roots in its gameplay, and it looks like there will be a very different cast as well, since we basically know that Lightning, Fang, and Vanille aren't going to be in the starring roles, so I'm kind of hoping that this one will be good. I told myself that FFXIII would be the last FF game for me, but I may have to break that promise.

How do you guys feel about this game? I guess we still have another year to hear more about it, though.

As someone who actually thought that XIII was good, even excellent, actually. I'm excited for XIII-2.

considering how exciting of a game FF13 was, I would say its normal to be excited for XIII-2
Hold up there, 'ems fighting words.

Personally, I was not a fan of FFXIII (In fact, I hated it). But hey, if you were, good for you. Whatever floats your boat.

What's wrong with wanting to like a game? Wouldn't it be a sign of relative maturity to give something a chance to impress you even if you do so with caution and skepticism? Wait for the initial reviews and player reactions to be published after the game's release and see what you think.

despite being a fan of final fantasy I really didn't like FF13 so I'm holding out for some reviews first before I give them my cash.

I'm mildly interested in and extremely wary of this game.

We could get lucky. It could turn out to be a wonderful return to form. Except- we're still talking about Motomu Toriyama, and he probably hasn't learned how to tell a good story in the time since the last game. We're still talking about a fairly boring setting (albeit with more Gran Pulse), and we're still talking about Lightning's sister. I have nothing against that character (what little of her we saw in XIII, anyway), but that probably means Snow will be in the game too. Fuck that guy.

I can't help but suspect that Noel will both suck and end up being the protagonist too.

Anyway, this is probably just going to be "more FFXIII". Now, FFXIII wasn't a terrible game either. Boring, pointless story and lackluster character writing, sure, but it had some solid combat once you unlocked paradigms. I wouldn't put it on a top 10 list anytime soon, but it isn't as bad as people make it out to be.

Feel free to get excited. Personally, I'm more excited about Versus XIII and Type-0. Those games have more actual talent behind them, and they've already made some promising announcements (an overworld! airships!).

[sub]Plus those three characters you mentioned were the only ones I liked in XIII.[/sub]

Nothing wrong with that. If you're excited for the game, then good for you. Who knows, it might be a huge improvement over FFXIII.

I'm not excited, but curious as to how the sequel will turn out. Even though I'm not a huge fan of Final Fantasy games in general (Although I've always loved the art style and soundtracks), I'm pretty sure I'll try it out eventually somewhere along the way.
